Asslamo Allaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,
11th of June 2014 @15:45
1st Phone call:
Muadh Khan: Maulana, you mentioned many years ago when I was in your house that it is the practise of our Akabir to mention good qualities of someone whom they disagree with if they found good?
Shaykh (Maulana) Marghoob Ahmed Lajpuri (HA): Yes it is, our Akabir were balanced and if they found something good they agreed with it and appreciated it despite disagreement with the person.
Muadh Khan: Maulana, What is the daleel for this in the Qur'aan and the Sunnah?
Shaykh (Maulana) Marghoob Ahmed Lajpuri (HA): Labīd (Abu Aqil Labīd ibn Rabī'ah) was a disbelieving poet but Nabi (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam) praised his poerty, look it up, Insha'Allah. He is in the hellfire but his poetry has been praised.
Muadh Khan: Maulana, What about Maulana Maududi (RA)?
Shaykh (Maulana) Marghoob Ahmed Lajpuri (HA): Shaykh Abul-Hasan Ali Nadwi (RA) wrote against him but read and he also mentions his good points in the same writing.
Muadh Khan: But that was in context, right?
Shaykh (Maulana) Marghoob Ahmed Lajpuri (HA): Shaykh Abul-Hasan Ali Nadwi (RA) again wrote and this time praised him after his death in "Puranay Chiraagh".
Muadh Khan: But have our Akabir used anything positive from Maulana Maududi (RA)?
Shaykh (Maulana) Marghoob Ahmed Lajpuri (HA): Maulana Naveed (RA) the teacher at Darul-uloom Deoband has written a 9 volume commentary and in it he mentions excerpts from Tafseer of Maulana Maududi (RA) and acknowledges it in foreword. He was a teacher at Darul-uloom Deoband.
Muadh Khan: Really?
Shaykh (Maulana) Marghoob Ahmed Lajpuri (HA): Why? Just because you disagree with someone you don't throw away everything or overlook their good. Look up all these references, Insha'Allah.
Shaykh (Maulana) Marghoob Ahmed Lajpuri (HA): What is the context of your conversation?
Muadh Khan: Shaykh (Maulana) Tariq Jameel (HA) praises Maulana Maududi (RA) in one of the talks.
Shaykh (Maulana) Marghoob Ahmed Lajpuri (HA): I don't know the bayan but perhaps Shaykh (Maulana) Tariq Jameel (HA) is praising good qualities and Allah (SWT) will judge the matter upon intentions.
2nd Phone call:
Muadh Khan: Maulana, this is astounding stuff so I will write this up and give references, can I quote you on it?
Shaykh (Maulana) Marghoob Ahmed Lajpuri (HA): Sure this is the truth, our Akabir were balanced people. They disagreed but also admitted good (where they found it)
3rdPhone call:
Shaykh (Maulana) Marghoob Ahmed Lajpuri (HA): I just remembered that there is a narration that a Faasiq shouldn't be praised as Allah (SWT)'s Arsh trembles at this! And yet there are also narrations in which Nabi (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam) praised someone to soften their heart (to Islam). So it is a different topic as to who is a Faasiq and who is not but your article should portray that a person doesn't become a Kaafir by praising somone in such and such manner and there could be some leeway in softening the heart of someone towards Islam by praising them for their obvious good.
Draft to be buffed up later...
