Following is an old article, that I just happened to come across again, thought I'd share it anyway...

Vander Hoven - the Power of Allah

Vander Hoven, a psychologist from Netherlands, announced his new discovery about the effect of reading the Quran and repeating the word ALLAH both on patients and on normal persons. The Dutch professor confirms his discovery with studies and research applied on many patients over a period of three years.

Some of his patients were non-Muslims, others do not speak Arabic and were trained to pronounce the word "ALLAH" clearly; the result was great, particularly on those who suffer from dejection and tension.

Al Watan, a Saudi daily reported that the psychologist was quoted to say that Muslims who can read Arabic and who read the Quran regularly can protect themselves from psychological diseases. The psychologist explained how each letter in the word "ALLAH" affects healing of psychological diseases. He pointed out in his research that pronouncing the first letter in the word "ALLAH" which is the letter (A), released from the respiratory system, controls breathing. He added that pronouncing the velar consonant (L) in the Arabic way, with the tongue touching slightly the upper part of the jaw producing a short pause and then repeating the same pause constantly, relaxes the aspiration. Also, pronouncing the last letter which is the letter (H) makes a contact between the lungs and the heart and in turn this contact controls the heart beat.

What is exciting in the study is that this psychologist is a non-Muslim, but interested in Islamic sciences and searching for the secrets of the Holy Quran. Allah, The Great and Glorious, says, We will show them Our signs in the universe and in their own selves, until it becomes manifest to them that this (Quran) is the truth. (Holy Quran 42:53)

السلام عليكم

My Personal understanding is that effect on a person on hearing the name Allah or the Quran will depend upon the state of his heart. So depending on that there may or may not be an effect.

Some hearts are 'sealed' by Allah Ta'ala, so the effects won't be there.
Some hearts will be guided by Allah Ta'ala, even sick hearts might have a positive reaction and the reaction may wary in magnitude too.

This story emerged in 2002 then again in 2007 and then now (because it has been sent out on Deobandi Whatsgroup) groups which is where you may or may not have gotten it from.

Sister, its replicated from years and snowballed and there is no original source which you can take it back to and say "Here you go this is the original and now we can trace it".

It could be correct and could be incorrect but many have tried to post this on "Non-Muslim" forums and gotten burnt so I am merely warning you.

The simple facts against this article is that discoveries are announced in Scientific Journals, peer reviewed, critiqued and there is no mention of anything like this at all in any of the (100 or so) sources they are merely replication of each other.

If there is an article on www.central-mosque.com with an error and you google that article and get 110 hits they are merely replication of the error.

And here is something with a source dating back to 1996

According to research by David B. Larson, of the American National Health Research Center, and his team, comparisons of devout and non-religious Americans have given very surprising results. For instance, religious people suffer 60% less heart disease than those with little or no religious belief, the suicide rate among them is 100% lower, they suffer far lower levels of high blood pressure, and this ratio is 7:1 among smokers.*1

It was reported in one study published in the International Journal of Psychiatry in Medicine, an important scientific source in the world of medicine, that people who describe themselves as having no religious beliefs become ill more frequently and have shorter life spans. According to the results of the research, those with no beliefs are twice as likely to suffer stomach-intestine diseases than believers, and their mortality rate from respiratory diseases is 66% times higher than that of believers.

Secular psychologists tend to refer to similar figures as "psychological effects." This means that belief raises peoples' spirits, and this contributes to health. This explanation may indeed be reasonable, but a more striking conclusion emerges when the subject is examined. Belief in Allah is much stronger than any other psychological influence. The wide-ranging research into the connection between religious belief and physical health carried out by Dr. Herbert Benson of the Harvard Medical Faculty has produced surprising conclusions in this area. Despite not being a believer himself, Dr. Benson has concluded that worship and belief in Allah have a more positive effect on human health than that observed in anything else. Benson states that he has concluded that no belief provides as much mental peace as belief in Allah.*2

What is the reason for this connection between belief and the human soul and body? The conclusion reached by the secular researcher Benson is, in his own words, that the human body and mind are regulated to believe in Allah.*3

There's a incident mentioned by Shaykh molana hakeem akhtar ra in his book about molana ashraf ali thanvi ra I think, a person came to him and asked what benefit is there in saying Allah Allah , I will read that part and type in a bit inshallah
