There is no reason to dislike the brother's comments at all. He has gone to some Ulamah who have given him an opinion which he believes to be correct and wants to propagate it.

Feel free to disagree but no reason to dislike him or his opinion for that.

I severely disagree with the above, let me elaborate.
If that's the case then none of the scholars from the sub continent should be followed, as they all have their roots(ancestral background which majority do ) in Hinduism, Buddhism, fire worshipping etc

The roots go back to some awesome people in some cases.

Example, Shaykh Zakariyah's lineage goes back to Sayidinah Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه and there are more examples of this.

Another great, (the name slips me but I think is is Maulana Gangohi) the lineage goes back to Sayidinah Umar Farooq رضي الله عنه

Akhi you forgot what I put in brackets, only for a handful it doesn't apply

The truth is if you like at the lienage then majority of it will go back to the Hindus and Sikhs and not Sayyids except a few, so on that notion based on advice in ops posts should the people from the sub-continent stop becoming ulema as no one will take them seriously as they don't come from a family of scholars ?

My view is, what a load of garbage, may Allah protect us from this cultist Hindu bootlicking culture that still remains in the Muslims even after converting many many decades/centuries later.

Islam is for all and Ulema are heirs of the Ambiya.

This.

So should we become Maliki's now op or follow an imam who was an Arab and dismiss those who weren't and weren't from a family of scholars like the brother above states ?

Might as well become Salafi and do it ourselves will make life much much easier, more variety to pick and chose etc etc

When Imam Malik was teaching Muwatta, his son would be outside flying kites, and Imam Malik said, (paraphrasing)
" This matter of scholarship is not passed through family inheritence. "

I agree with Jinn here, it is a backward Desi mentality to think that scholarship is passed on through mainly lineage. A lot of the best scholars from the Tabieen were in fact mawlaas, ie freed slaves. They didn't have schoarly family, they didn't even have a well known lineage.

Wallahi, if ulema suggest laymen to act on this, the laymen WILL reject ulema e haqq who don't have a lineage.
There is absolutely no guarantee that children from family of ulema to turn out to be good.

I agree, it might not be restricted to the desis. But desis do emphasis heavily on lineage in a lot of matters.
