Shaykh (Mufti) Shafi Usmani (HA) says that if there were two people left on Earth to give my daughter to (in marriage):

  1. A Scholar with a bad character
  2. A Jaahil (ignorant) with a good character

I would give my daughter to the ignorant!

Please maintain respect for each other and Ulamaa (if topic is about a scholar) by avoiding accusations and slanderous comments. Also remember that in order for criticism to be constructive, it must be channeled in the right direction. If there is any doubt in a matter, it is better to ask, clarify or to remain silent rather than to speak ill of another person.

Bro...he came to our area some time ago. One maulana introduced him as a collegue of umar Farooq Abdullah, amongst other introductions. So I got really angry. I was thinking is that something to be proud of? Offcourse maulana kamaani did not ask for the introduction in that way but the local maulana gave the intro in that way. The talk was good and he was talking about getting sisters involved and how in America behind purdah they have sisters coming and playing some games (I think he mentioned volleyball or something). Now the message in itself was fine but I always feel uncomfortable when a north American lectures us on such a topic. Like when another famous north American mualana mentioned that 50 of the 73 sects are in the UK and one brother on twitter replied back so how about America probably 72 sects are present. Not trying to blaze our north American brothers here but you see the irony of such talk.

anyways, with regards to Mufti Kamani, he's a proper Deobandi afaik. I've heard Maulana Zakariyya Patel who has known Mufti Saheb since he was a kid praise him.
