Once Mufti Saeed Ahmed Palanpuri said in a lecture (In my local Masjid).
"Some one asked if Sahaba came to the UK", So I asked him, "Will it make a difference on your Imaan? Will you be a better person? Will you pray more?" Of course not!
He made a joke of it at the time and was correct to do so. Although I know that this is not why you are asking. For us all its just for Historical facts I guess.
I got some Info on the Foot prints from these two books.. legit stuff..
Maqamat e Ambiya (Alaihis salam) & Tabarrukat e Ambiya (Alaihis salam) are two lovely picture albums with excerpts from Tafsir Ibn e Kathir and other Tafasir & books of History with Malfuzaat & anecdotes from Ulema and Mashaikh... By Maulana Arsalan bin Akhtar Memon sahab db a good read..
These are the two books which my mother is very fond of on my book shelf.. rest she says she doesnt understand.. :-)
Where did Hazrat Adam Alaihis salam descent..The Six Aqwal of Eight Mufassireen..
1.The Musannif of Tafseer Durr e Mansoor has written under the Tafseer of "Ihbitu" that Hazrat Adam (Alaihis salam) descended at a place called "wajna" which lies inbetween Makkah Mukarramah and Taif.
2. Some Mufassireen has commented that Hazrat Adam (Alaihis salam) descended on Mount Safa.
3.(summary of Tafseer Ruh ul Ma'ani (236/1) (gist)- He descended on Sarandeep (SriLanka).
4.Hazrat Abdullah Bin Umar رضي الله عنه comments that Allah tabarak wa ta'ala descended Hazrat Adam (Alaihis salam) in Hindustan.. Then he migrated to Makkah and later to Shaam where he died.
5.From a Historical point of view, Sarandeep, An Island of Ceylon, region of Hindustan, has a Mountain by the name of 'Budh' which holds the Footprints of Adam (Alaihis Salam). Later on this Mountain came under Srilanka.
6.Allamah Tabrani رحمة الله عليه records from Abu Nayeem رحمة الله عليه
Hazrat Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه narrates from Hazrat Rasulullah : " Hazrat Adam (Alaihis salam) was descended in Hind"
Ibn Asakir has recorded another narration: " When Hazrat Adam (Alaihis salam) was sent to earth, He was descended down in Hind" (source Hiliyatul Awliya)
I do not hold much interest in these footprints, etc however I do remember many years ago a group of Muslims going annually to a site (here in South Africa) where it was claimed that the footprints of Adam (as) are present. After all these years I do not remember much about this but i found this discussion: groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/sunnisevens/conversations/top...
There are some pictures of this footprint as well:
- Either the footprint is "real" and this proves that the people of the past were much bigger in size.
- The footprint is "fake" and is probably caused by geological and other natural phenomena.
The foot prints of Adam (Alaihis salam) on the Mount of Sri Lanka
We learn from Allamah Tabrani رحمة الله عليه and Ibn Asakir رحمة الله عليه that Hazrat Adam (Alaihis salam) was descended down to Hindustan. And the popular location of his descent is the island of Sarandeep which is now a part of Sri Lanka.
The peak of this mountain still holds the blessed foot prints of Hazrat Adam (Alaihis salam) and every night it emanates a lightning like radiance, even though there is no trace of any clouds on the sky at that moment.
Also it seems mandatory that it rains everyday on this blessed point, washing the footprints..
According to local Muslims, these are the footprints of Hazrat Adam (Alaihis salam). While the followers of Buddhist faith attribute it as a sign of Mahatma Budh and Hindus assign it to a deity.
Remember that the majority of Sri lankan populace comprises of Buddhist Sinhalese while Muslims constitute 10 Percent and Tamil Hindus around 25 Percent.
For 15 - 20 years they unleashed a bloodbath in the region's North East under 'Tamil Elam' using Guerilla warfare to establish a Hindu nation. only recently they have abandoned violence and resorted to claiming their rights from the Colombo government.
Islam reached Sarandeep in the 1st century Hijri. Arab traders had settled in Sarandeep (Lanka) and after they died.. their women & children Journeyed to Basra. When they reached Daibal, they were looted by pirates and held as captives.
At this instance the governor of Iraq Hajjaj Bin Yousuf sent forth Muhammed Bin Qasim رحمة الله عليه with an army. They gained victory till the province of Sindh. (712 AD/ 93 Hijri). Today the percentage of Muslims in Sri Lanka is 10 percent.
The blessed Footprints of Hazrat Adam (Alaihis Salam) on a mount in Sri Lanka
The famous Muslim Traveller Ibn Batutah has written in his travelogue: "when I reached this island, my ultimate goal was to visit the foot prints of Hazrat Adam (Alaihis salam). The occupants of this island know Hazrat Adam (Alaihis salam) as 'Baba' and Hazrat Hawwa (Alaihis salam) as 'Mama'. (safarnamah Ibn Batutah 585,584).
The mount mentioned by Ibn Batutah is known in Arabic as "Buuz". These days the natives of this place attribute these signs to the founder of Buddhist faith, Gautam Budh. And call upon it as the "Mount of Buddha".
This cannot be undone and I am sure it will be greatly appreciated.
