This is something I wrote over a year ago summarising some scientific papers I read at university. It has been laying in my drafts ever since, so I thought to share it, as it may be of some benefit.

Let me know what you think if you have time to read it. Jazakallahu khayran

FINDINGS

  1. Heart has neurons (40'000+) which send many instructions to the brain (more than the brain sends to heart, hence the heart "leads/directs")
  2. Heart emits an electromagnetic (EM) wave as far as at least 14 feet, affecting the rest of our bodies and of those in proximity to us
  3. This EM wave can change another person's EEG to become just like the "source wave"
  4. The strength of a person's ability to effect another person is dependent on intention, and coherence in the heart; positive feelings in the heart have a much stronger impact, with the strongest being the feeling of love.
  5. The above has been proven to occur when two people are in physical contact, or without physical contact but in close proximity.

Note: this is the extent of the scientific study, but we also experience that at times, the bond between two individuals is so strong that these effects may be felt accross continents!

THOUGHTS:

My thoughts were immediately directed to the central role of the heart in our Deen, the effect of Suhbah (companionship with the rijaluLlah, men of Allah) and the power of coherent and sincere intention (tawajjuh).

It is clear that the brain is subservient to the heart - or at least, one can "train" one's heart to make it so. Then, if a person's heart is well developed in their love for Allah, then they will certainly (perhaps even involuntarily) effectuate change within themselves and those around them. Hence, feelings for Allah in the heart (Qalb) is the driver of change in both the individual and society. Further, one who is accomplished in establishing "coherence" and "intention" in the heart may produce a much larger EM wave, whose companionship produces a dominating alignment of feelings in the hearts of those around him/her. In the end, this is what science is saying, but the understanding of the Sunnah from our Mashayikh had arrived at this through Divine Revelation.

"Science is just playing catch up with Islam"

There was an article I read quite a few years ago, where scientists discovered that just like the brain the heart although connected to the brain, also has a mind of it's own, so the condition of the heart can also have influence of the brain, rather than vice versa where it is believed the brain is controlling everything.

The heart has it's own emotions, and the physical and emotional state of it is affected by what we feel I.e. sorrow, grief, love, hatred....it was information that could easily be related to due to our Islamic beliefs, yet researchers are only just learning about it as a new discovery....amazing.

It is now believed that many neurological diseases are often triggered by the condition of the heart....I.e. stress, trauma, bereavement...etc

dr76 please translate relevent portions of the risala with regards to tawajuh/tasaruf as many of the chistis of today get angry just hearing of the word although off-course in comparison to the naqshbandis it is rarely used. Funny thing was mufti farooq meeruti db gives tawajuh in a very unique manner like hugging. Even mufti kamaludeen db uses this method as well.

Beautiful!

It needs not the seller to describe it.
