This is something I wrote over a year ago summarising some scientific papers I read at university. It has been laying in my drafts ever since, so I thought to share it, as it may be of some benefit.
Let me know what you think if you have time to read it. Jazakallahu khayran
FINDINGS
- Heart has neurons (40'000+) which send many instructions to the brain (more than the brain sends to heart, hence the heart "leads/directs")
- Heart emits an electromagnetic (EM) wave as far as at least 14 feet, affecting the rest of our bodies and of those in proximity to us
- This EM wave can change another person's EEG to become just like the "source wave"
- The strength of a person's ability to effect another person is dependent on intention, and coherence in the heart; positive feelings in the heart have a much stronger impact, with the strongest being the feeling of love.
- The above has been proven to occur when two people are in physical contact, or without physical contact but in close proximity.
Note: this is the extent of the scientific study, but we also experience that at times, the bond between two individuals is so strong that these effects may be felt accross continents!
THOUGHTS:
My thoughts were immediately directed to the central role of the heart in our Deen, the effect of Suhbah (companionship with the rijaluLlah, men of Allah) and the power of coherent and sincere intention (tawajjuh).
It is clear that the brain is subservient to the heart - or at least, one can "train" one's heart to make it so. Then, if a person's heart is well developed in their love for Allah, then they will certainly (perhaps even involuntarily) effectuate change within themselves and those around them. Hence, feelings for Allah in the heart (Qalb) is the driver of change in both the individual and society. Further, one who is accomplished in establishing "coherence" and "intention" in the heart may produce a much larger EM wave, whose companionship produces a dominating alignment of feelings in the hearts of those around him/her. In the end, this is what science is saying, but the understanding of the Sunnah from our Mashayikh had arrived at this through Divine Revelation.
