Start of Dhul-Qadah 1434 in Saudia (same as Wifaqul-Ulamah )

The Hilal for Dhul-Qa'dah didn't manifest (itself) yesterday so for this reason (and derived from it) it is the day of Friday 30th of Shawwal. With the setting of the sun (today) will begin the 1st of Dhul-Qad'ah from the sacred months.

Our dear brother Daywalk3r provided this tweet from Shaykh Salih Al-Munajjid (HA) so today is the 29th of Dhul-Qadah 1434 in UK, South Africa and Saudia.

Saudi Government has asked for the moon to be sighted today.

Asslamo Allaikum,

There was no credible moon sighting in:

  1. Asia
  2. Europe
  3. Africa
  4. North America
  5. South America
  6. Central America
  7. Australia

Therefore subject to moonsighting today (06OCT2013) where applicable Eid around the world is likely to be on Wednesday 16OCT2013.

That leaves us with the Saudi moon sighting (Gulf & Arab countries) which accept the Saudi sighting and want to go after a fictious sighting and celebrate Eid on Tuesday the 15th October, there are four issues to consider.

  1. Firstly, there are no issues with the Hajj of the Hajees because the Qadhi (of Saudia) has declared Hajj on a specific day and it is enforceable so the Hajj will be valid.
  2. Secondly, Saudi Scholars don't impose Saudi sighting on anyone so it isn't binding on the rest of the world
  3. Thirdly, Moon sighting on a day with clear horizons in the Hanafi Madhab MUST be verified by a large group of people and there was no general sighting in Saudia on a nice and clear day. It is IMPOSSIBLE for the moon just to be sighted by 1 or 2 individuals on a nice clear day.
  4. Fourthly, it is a well known principle in Islamic Fiqh that when moon is sighted in the East, it necessitates sighting in the West because common sense tells you that as you travel due wet sunset will be later and the age of the moon will be older. Saudi moon sighting is not verified anyone across the continents and the entire world. Shaykhul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (RA) said:

“...One of them being that If the hilal has been sighted in the east then this will necessitate sightings in the west. However this is not true the other way round. This is because the time of sunset in the west is after the time of sunset in the east. If the moon has been sighted (in the east) then one will observe a much brighter and a more illuminated moon in the west...[Majmu‟ Al Fatawa Volume 13, Page 62]"

At the end of the day, anyone reading this has to think about a few things:

  1. Deobandees from the time of Shaykh (Maulana) Qasim Nanotwi (RA) until today have NEVER followed Saudi sighting
  2. If you want to follow your Shaykh in terms of moon sighting then your Shaykh is likely not to be following his own Shaykh or his Shaykh (back in India/Pakistan)
  3. The entire world has tried and failed in sighting the moon, why is that the principles of doubt only apply to your eating (of meat etc) and not to any other aspect of your Islamic life?

Jazakallahu Khayran

salaam

i dont know about bury, but i know that dewsbury gets funding from saudi arabs. maybe that has something to do with it? apart from that i have no idea why they follow saudi. surely they would want to revive the sunnah of moon sighting in the UK. instead they have become an obstacle in reviving this sunnah. this especially goes for dewsbury as they have actively sent people from their shura to disrupt moonsighting meetings and bully people into following saudi. when they do stuff like this it really makes one think what their motivations can be. may allah take care of those who wish to come in the way of the revival of this sunnah.

It would be better to provide evidence along with any such accusationsns as they are harsh and could be hearsay.

Yes, I'm a pro wifaq but am limited to what the masjid announces. Pathetic situation, but true.

i am originally from batley and still live very close to it. i go to batley many times during the week and have family and friends there. i am still connected to batley even though i do not live there. the incident where shabbir daji gatecrashed the moonsighting meeting is well known throughout batley. i have also personally spoke to mufti sachas son who is also an alim and who was a close school friend of mine. he confirmed that his father was kicked out of markaz after many years of service solely due to his support of local moonsighting. moli mama, another teacher at markaz was also thrown out for the same reason. the hatred that the markaz has for local moonsighting is well known in and around batley.

Dear Hafiz Patel Sahib and other members of the Shuraa and all the responsible brothers of this work of Dawah.

The blessed month is coming close. On this occasion there has been a long controversy in regards with the sighting of the moon. Ramadhan Mubarak and the Eids are the fundamental basis of Islam. We need to be very cautious and fearful in this matter because making right or wrong judgement can lead the whole country in the right or wrong direction.

On these occasions the responsible brothers have a very grave duty upon them, especially when people are relying on them heavily due to the great effort of this work people throughout the country accept their decisions. It is very clear and evident in the Qur'an regarding the cycles of the moon and sun... It is possible to find errors in the calculations of the humans but there is no flaw in the calculations of the creator.

The English dates that are set by the experts of this field are possible dates of sighting the moon. We do not have to trust them but staying within the bounds of Shariah if there is any sighting of the moon then Ramadhan and Eid will commence or else it will be the following day without doubt. This is no innovated system but this is practiced all over the place and neither does anyone have any objections about it. Wherever the horizon is clear and there is a sighting of the moon on that date it is brought into action and if not then it is without doubt the following day.

Now what is left is that when, claims of moon sighting is made even before there is any slightest possibility of sighing. There is no credit given to this type of claims and it is against the actions of Jamhoor Ulama as well. To be cautious in regards with this matter, we can take calculations from experts in the Astronomical field which will include Muslims and non-Muslims. From our point of view we consider Dr Ilyas of Malaysia as a Muslim expert in this field.

Assistance can be taken from the Nautical Almanac Office of England. If their calculated dates turn out to correct then it will be understood that there was possibility of sighting the moon on that date and if there was no Shar'ee sighting of the moon on that date then the following date will be considered as definite. It is not hidden from you brothers that expert astronomers calculate the dates of solar and lunar eclipses many years beforehand and thousands of people visibly experience these eclipses on these dates where there are clear skies. Similar is the situation of sighting of the moon with more or less a difference of one day.

Therefore on such occasions where their dates are not accepted to be exact, at the same time you cannot completely reject their calculations. Instead, whilst staying within the bounds of Shariah, advantage should be taken of their calculations.

From: Hadharat Jee

Note; Three, four copies of this issue have been sent to different members of the Shuraa. It should be read in front of all members of the Shuraa incase anyone does not get a copy of it

That's a good question for you to ask the Ulama-e-Kiraam and not us. Just as it is Islamically unacceptable for you to ask me why your uncle is doing such and such, it is equally unacceptable for you to ask me why such and such Maulana or such and such darul-uloom is or isn't doing something.

  1. Following saudi moonsighting in Britain
  2. The issue of moonsighting in Britain
  3. The issue of moonsghting in UK

But what I should ask you is that Ulamah of deoband have NEVER and STILL DON'T follow Saudi Arabia in Pakistan. Darul-uloom deoband, Shaykh (Mufti) Taqi Usmani (HA) and others have CLEARLY given a Fatwa not to follow Saudi Arabia in UK so:

  • Do you think that the Fatwaas above are lies and forgeries?
  • If not then what makes you DISCARD the unanimous practise of Ulamah of Deoband and Fatwaas?

If these are not lies and made up so what makes you or anyone else discard them?

Jazakallahu Khayran
