Some people refuse to walk or bike or what have you for the shortest of distances - that's what I meant about the one on driving to the corner store.

Yes, I know why pigeon wire is put up but architects and planners can devise better solutions or deal with it in other ways. Or, at the very least, don't put the stuff up when birds are already using the area...

Unrelated to use of wires but related to access to places for birds, here's a horror story for you:

The exterior of our building sustained heavy damage from high winds - soffits, along with siding and roof shingles were torn off. It took management more than a year to even get someone to take a look at the issue. In the meantime, pigeons discovered areas with missing soffits and used them to gain entry into the attic-space which gave them a sheltered, safe place to make their nests... Before you know it, there are an awful lot of pigeons around the apartment, lounging on the roofs and could even hear their cooing through the vents.

Anyhow, management finally got around to getting the problem fixed and the solution was just terrible! Contractors came in, went into the attic-space and chased off all the birds. They then sealed all the soffits. But... you could see these poor birds trying so desperately to find a way to get into the attic-space... they were so desperate. A week or two later, there people were up in the attic-space again - they had come to collect all the dead babies :( yes, they died of dehydration and starvation :(

For months maybe even close to a year, pigeons continued to try in desperation to gain entry into the attic-space :( it was the saddest thing! Had management dealt with the problem right away, none of that would have happened. Since they had a problem on their hands, they should have dealt with it in a more humane way but of course, that would have cost them money (having someone come and re-locate the nests or something like that)... and people see pigeons as the rats of the sky (pests).

Just see. How inhumane! if you consider the amount of suffering we humans impose upon the weakest creation of Allah i.e defenseless animals, you wouldn't find the present (miserable) condition of this world so surprising. After all, our creator is ONE. Allah sees the pain and hears the pleas of animals as much as humans.

I hate those cause inconvenience others for no reason or no gain whatsoever; just because they enjoy someone else’s misery.

Isn't this just a continuation of the things we would like to have banned? (should it be merged?)

I hate back bitters, gossipers, spies, lies, eavesdroppers, hypocrisy. I hate them and I would ban it's existence!

I dislike anonymous posters.

Especially those who come to create fitnah or look to am argument and don't have an ID for us to relate to or recognize the poster.

Actually, I hate it, but not them.

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim

This thread is a very good reminder of how much work there is for us all to do :(

I was talking with a friend yesterday and she told me the life expectancy in one place in Canada is 15. No, not a typo... you read it right 15 and in Canada - a so called civilized, modern, forward, country with all the technology you would want, industry like there is no tomorrow, all sorts of natural resources and so much space for so few people! These poor kids live without a trace of hope in their eyes. Desmond Tutu visited the region and said he's never seen kids in worse shape - even children in the most destitute of conditions in other parts of the world have a glimmer of hope in their eyes... but, not in this particular place in Canada. And you know, with all the money to build new things just because the old is outdated, you'd think more would be done for these people but no, they're mostly forgotten. My friend said they have a homeless man in their community... I repeat: homeless man... he is an alcoholic, from the same background as these children, and he somehow managed to scrape together $2,000 to donate to their youth centre. The government with all its money and power doesn't do what it definitely can.

We need to be careful with diseases like alcoholism and drugs - this is one thing that needs to be tackled very carefully and insha'Allah, with an eye to social causes as well as individual causes. Why are all these people drinking in the first place. Perhaps we have people in our families or people we know around us who have also fallen into such a disease and the more they're there, the harder it is for them to climb back out. May Allah Ta'aala help them, and us all; may He grant us the strength to overcome our weaknesses, our diseases, and our faults; may He grant us understanding, kindness, and humility; and may He forgive us our transgressions, our errors, and accept our tawbah. Ameen.
