Amazing though. Very true and very dangerous, yet at the same time, it reminds me of a comment by Shaykh Riyadhul Haq, which I've posted a few times before to make a point.

It is amazing how people will post their personal things as well as things that have nothing to do with them.

In the case above from the blog, the brother was fortunate that the sister was stupid enough to do that and at the same time very hypocritical.

I can imagine many people reading the blog and thinking, Brother Muadh is talking about me! Oh No!

Have you ever Goolgled yourself? Did you find yourself?

Well if you did and you cant stand it, what will you do?

Anyways, most people have similar names and many have very common surnames.

So if you feel that you are unique and you found yourself on a well known website like 192.com, you can get yourself removed.

Remember, as brother Muadh has said, use "..." speech marks before and after your search to narrow it down.

Creepy? Yes, but we shouldn't have anything to worry about if we have been good law abiding, practising Muslims!

After reading brother muadhs original post, I googled my user name first, was surprised to find my blog, which is a good thing 'I think'...but found someone with a facebook account with same real name living in the same area! Don't have a Facebook account! closed my Twitter account last year, the continuous tweets were driving me crazy, and having complete strangers as followers gave me the creeps!

You might think I'm getting paranoid, but I just googled my self too and then went into all the nitty gritty on my email account settings to see what I've been signed up to and who has added me etc etc...

Its not a good thing what they have done. I've just spent all morning changing the settings and reading the T's & C's and un ticked as many boxes as i could find.

Forget about bread crumbs, the net leaves your fingerprints, footprints and your DNA wherever you go.

Assalaamu 'alaykum

I'm not sure if I have the terminology correct. What I mean is people gathering information about others from comments on blogs, forums etc. to create profiles.

I was a bit concerned about it since I came to know about it a few weeks ago but did not give it much thought. Then in the last few days I came across it again and yesterday someone mentioned it here on one of the threads. It increased my concern enough to start thinking back to the last couple of years of my being active on forums. How much personal information have I inadvertently given out? Loads! I can also quite quickly create a general "image" of most of the other users here!

So if someone was to spend time deliberately creating a profile by putting together information we let slip, they can easily create a picture in their minds of an individual i.e. gender, age, looks, work, country of residence etc.

We know that Shaytaan is at work everywhere right? A person can maybe get "infatuated" with someone, create a profile on them and even try to contact them through social networks....I believe it can easily happen. If it does not go that far then what about that person being in one's thoughts which is also sinful?

May Allah ta'ala protect us from all fitnah. I believe we should be careful about the information we innocently "reveal" about ourselves on the internet.....specially as Muslim women!
