There is no Salah before its time:

[4:103]...Surely, Salah is an obligation on the believers that is tied up with time.

There is no Salah without being in the state of Wudhu:

[5:6] O you who believe, when you rise for Salah, (prayer) wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows, and make Masah (wiping by hands) of your heads and (wash) your feet up to the ankles. If you are in a state of major impurity, cleanse yourselves well (by taking bath). If you are sick, or on a journey, or if one of you has come after relieving himself, or you have had sexual contact with women, and you find no water, then, go for some clean dust and wipe your faces and hands with it. Allah does not like to impose a problem on you; He, rather likes to cleanse you and to complete His favour upon you, so that you may be grateful.

Mus'ab b. Sa'd (RA) reported: 'Abdullah son of Umar came to Ibn'Amir in order to inquire after his health as he was ailing. He said Ibn 'Umar, why don't you pray to Allah for me? He said: I heard of Allah's Messenger (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam) say: Neither the Salah is accepted without parification nor is charity accepted out of the ill-gotten (wealth) [Muslim]

The place of Salah must be Taahir (free from impurities):

[22:26]...and purify My House for those who make Tawaf (circumambulation around it), and those who perform Qiyam (standing up in worship) and those who perform Ruku (bowing down) and Sujud (prostration).

Sayyidna lbn Umar narrated that the Prophet (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam) disallowed offering salah at seven places: the laterine, slaughter house, grave, thoroughfare, bath, shed of camels, and the roof of Bayt Allah.[Tirmidhi]

Anas Bin Maalik said: While we were in the masjid with the Messenger of Allaah, a Bedouin came; he then urinated in the masjid. The Companions of the Messenger of Allaah said, “Mah Mah (An expression used to severly scold someone, to indicate the graveness of a matter).” The Messenger of Allaah said, “Do not put a halt to his urinating, but instead leave him.” They left him alone until he finished urinating. The Messenger of Allaah called him over and said to him, “Any kind of urine or filth is not suitable for these masjids. Instead they are only [appropriate] for the remembrance of Allaah, the Prayer, and the recitation of the Qur’aan,” or this is near to what the Messenger of Allaah said. He (saw) then issued an order to a man from the people, who then came with a bucket of water, which he poured over the [effected] area [of the masjid]. [Muslim]

The body and clothes for Salah must be Taahir (free from impurities):

[74:4] and purify your clothes,

Narrated 'Aisha: Fatima bint Abi Hubaish said to Allah's Apostle, "O Allah's Apostle! I do not become clean (from bleeding). Shall I give up my prayers?" Allah's Apostle replied: "No, because of a blood vessel and not the menses. So when the real menses begins give up your prayers and when it (the period) has finished wash the blood off your body (take a bath) and offer your prayers." [Bukhari]

Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri said: Whilst the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was leading his companions in prayer, he took off his shoes and placed them to his left. When the people saw that, they took off their shoes. When the Messenger of Allaah had finished the prayer he said, “What made you take off your shoes?” They said, “We saw you take off your shoes, so we took off our shoes.” The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Jibreel (peace be upon him) came to me and told me that there was some dirt on them.” And he said: “When one of you comes to the mosque, let him check his shoes, and if he seeds any dirt on them, let him wipe them and pray in them.”  [Abu Dawud]

The awrah of a man is between Navel and the Knees and at a minimum it must be covered during Salah:

Ali (RA) said: The Messenger of Allaah (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam) said: “Do not show your thigh, and do not look at the thigh of anyone, living or dead.” [Abu Dawud]

Muhammad ibn Jahsh (RA) said: The Prophet (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam) passed by Ma’mar when I was with him, and his thighs were uncovered. He said: “O Ma’mar, cover your thighs, for the thigh is ‘awrah.” [Ahmed]

Narrated from Jawhad al-Aslami that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) passed by him when his thigh was uncovered and he said: “Do you not know that the thigh is ‘awrah?” [Ahmed]

Narrated from Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The thigh is ‘awrah.” [Tirmidhi]

Person must face the Qiblah during Salah:

[2:144] We have been seeing you turning your face to the heavens. So, We will certainly assign to you a Qiblah that you would like. Now, turn your face in the direction of the Sacred Mosque (Al-Masjid-ul-Haram), and (O Muslims), wherever you are, turn your faces in its direction. Even those who have been given the Book know well that it is the truth from their Lord, and Allah is not unaware of what they do.

It is emphasised Sunnah to pray Salah in congregation:

Maalik ibn al-Huwayrith (RA) said: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) with a group of my people and we stayed with him for twenty days. He was compassionate and kind, and when he saw that we were missing our families he said: “Go back and stay with them and teach them; pray as you have seen me praying. When the time for prayer comes, let one of you give the call to prayer and let the oldest of you lead (the others) in prayer.” [Bukhari]

Men should straighten their rows during Salah in congregation and ensure that there are no gaps:

Sayyidina Anas ibn Maalik (RA) that the Prophet (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam) said: “Straighten your rows, for straightening the rows is part of perfecting prayer.” [Bukhari]

It is desirable to place a Sutrah in front (of Imam when praying in congregation and in front of oneself) during Salah:

Sayyidina Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri (RA), that the Prophet (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam) said: “When one of you prays, let him pray facing towards a sutrah and draw  close to it, [Abu Dawud]

The minimum height of Sutrah has been interpreted to be the length of an arm, and its width at least a finger.

And he (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam) said: “Let one of you use a sutrah when he prays, even if it is an arrow.” [Ahmed]

It is forbidden to cross between the Sutrah and the one who is praying

Narrated Busr bin Said (RA) narrates that Zaid bin Khalid (RA) sent him to Abi Juhaim (RA) to ask him what he had heard from Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) about a person passing in front of another person who was praying. Abu Juhaim (RA) replied, "Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) said, 'If the person who passes in front of another person in prayer knew the magnitude of his sin he would prefer to wait for 40 (days, months or years) rather than to pass in front of him." Abu An-Nadr (RA) said, "I do not remember exactly whether he said 40 days, months or years."[Bukhari]

Make the intention for Salah before starting, “I am performing Salah [name of Salah] for Allah (SWT)” adding “behind the Imam if it is being done in congregation. Intention doesn't have to articulated verbally or uttered loudly, it is an action of the heart.

Narrated 'Umar bin Al-Khattab:  I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "The reward of deeds depends upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended. So whoever emigrated for worldly benefits or for a woman to marry, his emigration was for what he emigrated for." [Bukhari]

Both hands should be raised till the fingers are level with the earlobes while uttering the Takbeer, “Allahu-Akbar”. Fingers shouldn't touch the earlobes.

Narrated Wa'il ibn Hujr (RA): I saw the Apostle of Allah() raising his thumbs in prayer up to the lobes of his ears. [Abu Dawud]
