Asslamo Allaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

We are increasingly being approached by practising Muslims brothers and sisters who are concerned by their Internet usage so here are some thoughts...

Many of our practising brothers and sisters have only a “traditional” understanding of addiction which is to say that they associate addiction with drugs, alcohol, smoking or even when they associate addiction with the Internet its generally thought  to be “P ornogrpahy addiction” etc.

The sad reality is that many practising brothers and sisters could be addicted to Internet in continually surfing:

  • Islamic sites
  • Islamic forums
  • Continuously and repeatedly checking emails
  • News sites (BBC etc)
  • Watching youtube
  • Watching movies or TV shows etc

You could be spending your time on the Internet on Halal and STILL be addicted

Excellent read. There was a time when TV was hated for the very same reasons. No one thought they could be anything worse. With all its benefits, I have found the internet to be disastrous to so many people. Especially the young and stupid. When I say stupid, I mean naive but the young think the word naive is a good thing and cute. It's not. To me it means foolish

Good advice on how to overcome it too

Asslamo Allaikum,

I have been informed that Shaykh (Mufti) Hussain Kamani (HA) talked about this issue as well in London over the weeked, did anyone record it?

Jazakullah Khairun
