brother suleiman84 the issue is as follows; Firstly many of the mashaikh of deoband don't consider bait to be a precrequisite of islaah. They believe islaah can be done without bait. The other opinion is of hazrat zulfiqar ahmed db and the naqshbandi mashaikh. They don't believe in islaahi taaluq and believe that bait is a prerequisite. The issue of shaykh zakariya rh mentioning bait is not neccesary yes in if one means fardh/wajib. In the sense of bait being sunnah or mustahab then this is what many believe. Shaykh suleiman keep a look out for a good shaykh inshallah. Why not mufti nawalur rahman db or one of his khulafah like fusoos? They go jamaat, have ilm, zikr etc. There is one khalifah of mufti nawalur rahman known as sufi saab try and connect with him inshallah. Apart from that I guess in the US there aint many mashaikh. Also I heard good things about shaykh ahmed arshad saab in New york.

Even though he's in Chicago, distance isn't the issue but the language is. I wouldn't feel comfortable communicating personal issues through a third person, as I can't converse properly in Urdu...

I too had the same issue of language+tabligh with Mufti Nawalur Rahman sahib. But he does give bayan in markaz and spends 40 days every year.
