What is wrong with Mufti Husain's (ha) explanation that we need further investigation?

I'm not seeking for further investigation. This is a story and can't be called a Fadhail. Therefore how to justify its weakness?

Its a "story" so why do we need to verify its Authenticity?

I heard a Salafi Imam saying in a khutbah that such and such narration is weak....and if it's fabricated, then one should mention it if it being told to others.

Can you imagine that coming from a Salafi Imam.

If it's weak or fabricated but has a story someone can learn from, state it's validity and then narrate it. (And these were hard-core Albany boys)

I am not into stories and you know that but from a Shariah perspective stories are not subject to the same rules as Hadeeth.

جزاك الله خيرا. Yes I know that stories are just stories. However, my question was because Sahabah's (RA) names were associated with it.

salaam

i agree.

stories are just stories and should be attributed as such. but when the stories are attributed to actual people then it becomes a lie and deception.

For stories in history if we apply the criteria that is used for Ahadees, may be most of history will appear fabricated......

salaam

no one has an issue with stories. the issue is falsely attributing stories to actual personalities - especially prophets (as) and sahaba (rd).

Actually minor details of the history contain many weak and even fabricated narrations. The author generally mentions strength of the narration and in case of doubt, renders to Allaah Ta'ala (eg. Hafiz Ibn Katheer Raheemahullaah narrated numerous incidents in Al Bidaya wal Nihaya). However, major incidents can't be fabricated because many historians recorded these.

Anyway, the story which is being discussed, is insignificant from historical perspective. But it is an emotional story depicting Sahabah's (RA) immense love for Rasulullaah (saw). Fadhail e Amaal is such a book that is read extensively throughout the world and narrated by many. Therefore, narrating any story that includes Sahabah (RA) (and classified as fabrication by Ibn Hajr, Adh-Dhahabi, Mulla Ali Qari, Ibn Arraq Raheemahumullaah and others)...I don't know about permissibility but seems wrong to me.

I know about caliber of Shaykhul Hadith Mawlana Zakariyya Raheemahullaah and reasons of presence of some extremely weak narrations in his book. Anyone can make mistake. But I wonder why these narrations are not omitted from the book or at least weakness is not mentioned as footnote.

Just want to ask a couple of questions to those saying it's just a story. Now if it's a story of one of the khulafa e rashideen then I assume there is more need to verify its authenticity as we are ordered to follow the sunnah of the khulafa e rashideen. If it's a story of others sahabas then wouldn't it still be important to verify its authenticity, because of the importance one would place on the sayings or actions of a Sahaba as opposed to anyone else?

In Fazail-e-Amaal Hadhrat Shaykh رحمة الله عليه relied a lot on Imam Haythami رحمة الله عليه. That explains why the story is included in the book. (Classical) scholars including narrations of whichs severe weakness or fabrication they were aware of in their works has been dealt with already.

EDIT : Unfortunately the lecture may have moved to another page.

This lecture answers many objections and and gives many reasons why these narrations are in the book. www.muftisays.com/forums/76-the-true-salaf-as-saliheen/63...

After listening to the whole lecture, you will learn that the Salafi who tend to create all this havoc in the first place have a book similar with even more severe errors.
