MAKKAH – Unplanned districts and compensation for expropriation of properties in Makkah will be the priorities of Prince Mishal Bin Abdullah, Emir of Makkah region, who assumes his duties in Makkah on Sunday.
“These two files will be under my personal supervision. I’ll visit old neighborhoods and listen to the demands of residents. I’ll also ensure that issues related to floods and rains get my full attention,” Prince Mishal said during an interview with Okaz/Saudi Gazette.
“It is natural that some neighborhoods might have unplanned areas that need development and infrastructure projects,” he said.
“All ministries are serious about tackling this problem and finding a permanent solution to it. Residents of old neighborhoods should enjoy the same level of services available in planned areas. This is one of their rights,” the Emir added.
Prince Mishal praised the great work and efforts of Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, former Emir of Makkah. “Prince Khaled’s achievements will always be remembered by citizens,” he said, stressing that he will pick up from where Prince Khaled left off.
Prince Mishal said he will start off by paying inspection visits to south Jeddah and certain neighborhoods in Makkah to know the demands of residents of these areas.
He noted that faltering projects is a problem that exists in several regions, not only in Makkah, a problem that requires full cooperation of all pertinent authorities.
The Emir said he will follow up closely with all contractors to make sure that all projects are implemented as scheduled.
Prince Mishal underscored the importance of encouraging young men and women to participate in the process of overall development. “Youth play an essential role in improving the economy.”
He called upon Makkah people and leading figures to express their viewpoints regarding major issues.
