More than 2 million worshippers attend the recitation
of the last chapter of Quran in the holy mosque

Makkah, Ramadan 28, 1434, Aug 6, 2013, SPA

More than two million worshippers, consisting of visitors, Umrah performers, citizens and expatriates, attended Isha (evening) and Taraweeh (post-Isha) prayers as well as recitation of the last chapter of Quran in the holy mosque this evening amid comprehensive services provided by government authorities and follow-up of Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, Governor of Makkah Region.

As is the custom of the Imam and preacher of the holy mosque every Ramadan, this year Sheikh Dr. Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz Al-Sudais, the General President of the Grand Mosque and Prophet's Mosque Affairs, who led the prayers, managed to read some excerpts of the holy book so that reciting the Quran will be finished by the last day of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

70 tons of dates distributed daily
in Makkah’s Grand Mosque

Tuesday 6 August 2013

A whopping 70 tons of dates is distributed daily to fasting pilgrims in Makkah’s Grand Mosque. The dates are spread on floor trails stretching 65km inside the Haram, the Director of Hygiene and Furnishings Administration at the Grand Mosque, Sultan bin Aati Al-Qurashi, said.

There are 167 tons of waste generated every day inside the Grand Mosque, he said, adding that on the 27 and 29 nights of Ramadan, the quantity of dates distributed reaches 300 tons. The Hygiene and Furnishings Administration in the Grand Mosque supervises the breaking of the fast daily, which is organized in collaboration with establishments, charities and individuals. Al-Qurashi said there are specific standards prescribed for services that are offered by 14 establishments and charities, as well as 880 individuals who have been granted permits according to standards. The disposal of date seeds is important to avoid droppings on the floor and creating blocks.

The establishment, charities and individuals have deployed supervisors and workers to ensure the quality of dates and make sure that the table-spread on the floors are a uniform beige color with a consistence thickness of 50 microns. This year, there are more than 5,000 workers who have been deployed around the Grand Mosque.

Al-Qurashi said that there has been a field committee deployed for follow-up and for ensuring that standards and specifications are being complied with. Dates and coffee are taken into the mosque by those who have permits 30 minutes after Asr prayer. They enter through side doors as the floor tables are being laid out. The dates and coffee are carefully distributed just before Maghreb prayers.

He said that table spreads are removed within 5 minutes following the call for Maghreb prayer, placed inside litter bags and taken by special carts for central collection, which are located on different sides of the mosque and then taken outside the Central Square through special compressors.
Al-Qurashi called on pilgrims for greater cooperation to make the hygiene plan a success and to place their litter in designated areas.

He also urged them to contribute to the hygiene of the House of God by not bringing with them food and drink but to limit their consumption inside the mosque to Zamzam water, dates and coffee.

He pointed out that pilgrims should not perform ablution in Zamzam water, which is meant solely for drinking and because it could lead to slippery floors.
The director also called on pilgrims to place their shoes in the shoe cubbies along the sides of the mosque and in its corridors.

The General Presidency of the Affairs of the Holy Mosque in Makkah would be happy to receive feedback and suggestions from pilgrims and visitors through the Hygiene and Furnishings Administration. Feedback can be sent directly to the Presidency or through fax on 025739992 or posted on the website of the General Presidency for the Holy Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque.

'' Eid al Fitr ''

______________________

Makkah 'Eid al Fitr' Salaah by Sheikh Humaid

1 Shawwal 1434 ~ August 8, 2013

Friday 9 August 2013

‘Kill hatred and look up to bright future’

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, Crown Prince Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, and other princes and top officials performed Eid Al-Fitr prayers at the Grand Mosque in Makkah along with millions of other worshippers on Thursday.

Sheikh Saleh bin Humaid, former president of the Shoura Council and an imam of the Grand Mosque, urged Muslims to enjoy Eid following the teachings of Islam. “Eid is a time for celebration, wearing new and beautiful dresses. We should thank God for this blessing.”

In his Eid sermon, Bin Humaid emphasized the holidays’ role in strengthening human and family bonds. “As we establish contacts with our Lord through worship and prayers, we should maintain good relations with our fellow beings by participating in their enjoyment and happiness,” he said.

Eid is not for remembering past tragedies and sorrowful events but for enjoyment and happiness through mutual visits and exchanging gifts and good words, Bin Humaid told the millions of faithful who thronged the huge mosque complex.

“It is the right of Muslims to hear about joyful things at the time of their Eid,” the imam said, adding that it would give them optimism about a bright future.

“Islam has planted the love of beautiful things in the minds of Muslims,” Bin Humaid said while attacking moves to use pretty women to market goods and services.

Meanwhile, King Abdullah received princes, Islamic scholars, ministers and senior civilian and military officials who came to greet him on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr at Al-Safa Palace in Makkah. He also received former Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Al-Hariri.

King Abdullah and Crown Prince Salman later returned to Jeddah after performing Eid prayer and spending the last part of Ramadan in the vicinity of the Grand Mosque.

At the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, more than 1 million faithful attended Eid prayers. Sheikh Abdul Bari Al-Tubaithy, imam of the mosque, said Eid would help bring happiness to Muslims and remove their worries.

“We have to enjoy every moment of this festival but within the limits of Shariah,” the imam told the worshippers.

He said Muslims should forget about the past woes and work for a brighter future in order to have lasting happiness. Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh led Eid prayers in the capital Riyadh. “Eid has come to strengthen relations among Muslims. It is an opportunity to clear our minds from hatred and vengeance,” he added.

''Sparkling lighting'' on

Makkah Royal Clock Tower

Illumination - Royal Clock Tower - Makkah - Saudi Arabia

Year of manufacture: 2011
Architect: SL RASCH

The project by AE&T Lighting

The highest we have made!

We have participated in this project "Royal" by the German architect SL Rasch who signed several projects in the Middle East.

Project challenge

To visually announce Prayer Time to the whole Makkah city by illuminating the top of the Makkah Clock Tower (601 m high). The flashers should be visible in the daytime as well as at nighttime.

From its 601 meters, the tower offers real estate, commercial and luxury resort. It is especially noted for its clock 40 meters in diameter, visible more than 20 km on 4 sides, and surmounted by a 170 meters spire.

It is precisely for this flickering arrow we need to design a specific flash and system programming. The flickering should sound to indicate the time of daily prayers or the beginning of Ramadan.

Three major constraints are overcome: the extreme heat and constant wind gusts at this height, the combination of two technologies and two colors in a single device without risk of overheating, and prohibited non-Muslim presence on the floor of the Mecca.

AE&T Lighting Solution

We designed a special “double technology” flasher, with powerful Xenon and green LEDs. The flashers are designed to operate in ambient temperatures of up to 70°C. The products can be installed and maintained from the inside of the building.

To withstand the hot and heavily exposed to sunlight environment, the choice of material used for making the case has focused on a polycarbonate ultra UV resistant and anti yellowing.

For the electronic part, our Design Office has developed a system that combines proven technology Xenon and LED technology. The Xenon lamp triggers a powerful white flash, while the LEDs produce a beautiful green sheen, color desired by the architect.

With our exclusive programming, combining the two technologies allows a multitude of lighting effects. To approximate atmospheric conditions Mecca, equipment and lighting effects have been tested and validated to Dubai before final installation on the monument.

In order to understand the system without being present on the site, we have dispatched a team of Tunisian engineers previously trained in our systems and our products.

''The Mataf bridge is 100% safe''

___________________

Mataf bridge crack no cause for alarm

The photo, which appeared on social networking sites, shows a crack in one
of the pillars of the temporary Mataf Bridge around the Holy Ka’ba.
9 August 2013 - 02 Shawwal 1434 H

MAKKAH – The photo showing a crack in one of the pillars of the temporary Mataf Bridge around the Holy Ka’ba that appeared on social networking sites has been blown out of proportion, the Saudi Press Agency quoted a spokesman for the Presidency of the Two Holy Mosques’ Affairs as saying on Thursday.

The pillar did have a crack but it was a small one and occurred when it was being hauled and unloaded, Ahmad Al-Mansouri said.

The problem has been fixed and it no longer poses any threat to the safety of Umrah pilgrims and visitors who use the bridge, he added.

The crack occurred around the clamps reinforcing the pillars. The clamps, which are made of steel, were tightened by nails and were not welded. The space in these clamps is filled with a special paste. The crack appeared when the clamps were being tightened.

The contractor in charge of the Mataf project conducts routine inspections and checks on all pillars to ensure there are no problems, Al-Mansouri noted.

“The bridge is 100 percent safe. It will be ready to accommodate huge crowds of pilgrims during the Haj season.”

The spokesman urged those who circulate such photos to ensure their facts are correct to avoid causing any alarm to visitors to the Grand Mosque. He reiterated the Presidency’s utmost keenness on the safety of all Umrah pilgrims.
