Excellent work.

MashaAllah, keep the pictures coming. They are working at the usual extreme pace. Alhumdulillah.

Also looks like they are putting in additional floors in the Mataf expansion.

Haj Ministry’s instruction

to Umrah firms

Thursday 6 December 2012

Ministry of Haj has instructed all Haj and Umrah companies to submit their operational agendas for next year's season within one month. The ministry wanted the companies to identify the nationalities that will be provided services in 2013; spell out the number of agencies they will have outside the Kingdom and the number of Umrah visas issued during the season. Companies have also been requested to provide details of accommodation and transportation contracts.

The ministry will start issuing visas next month for licensed Umrah companies through the Umrah Companies Affairs Department. The visas will be issued in the light of the department's records of last years. It will also take into account any complaints filed by pilgrims and Umrah visitors against the companies.

The ministry coordinates with the Passport Department before issuing visas to make sure that Umrah visitors brought by the companies did not overstay their visas during the previous season.
The ministry said in a letter sent to companies that the number of Umrah visitors had increased during the past eight months by 18 percent. Last year, 5.5 millions visitors came to the Kingdom for Umrah while the year before 4.1 million visitors came.

Burmese to be hired as drivers in Makkah

Thursday 6 December 2012

An official at the General Syndicate of Cars said that the union is considering a project to employ Burmese citizens in Makkah in the transport sector.
"There is a study under way now to employ Burmese who are residents here on condition that they are included in the Saudization process. The project is still under discussion and is facing many obstacles," said Marwan Zubeidi, Secretary General of General Syndicate of Cars.

He said that the Saudization committee in the syndicate found that Saudis refrain from working in this sector. "There are 25,000 jobs, but Saudis account for no more than 7 percent of applicants for these jobs. Saudi youths are reluctant to take on such jobs", he added.

A committee consisting of a number of parties, such as the Human Resource Fund, pilgrims transportation companies, the Ministry of Labor and others, is considering the possibility of training both Saudi and non-Saudi applicants as drivers so they can qualify for the job as a permanent position.

Sahal Sabban, undersecretary at the Ministry of Haj for Transportation, Projects and Holy Sites, said that dysfunctional buses reached 25 percent this last Haj season, emphasizing that transport companies did their part despite the growing numbers of pilgrims in the Haj season.

Tunisian pilgrim seeks justice

over loss of husband’s hand to accident

6 December 2012 - 22 Muharram 1434 H

MAKKAH — A Tunisian pilgrim has accused guides from the Tawafa Establishment of Arab Pilgrims of neglecting her husband when he lost his hand in an accident involving two buses.

She said that during the Haj season, her husband was trying to get onboard a bus. The bus driver closed the door on her husband’s right hand, while the rest of his body was still outside.

The man yelled at the driver to stop but another bus passed and he was caught between the two vehicles.

The woman said other bus ran over her husband’s left hand after he fell onto the ground. He was rushed to hospital and was in a coma for 10 days.

When he eventually woke up and found his hand had been amputated, he was hysterical. The wife said he is suffering mentally and cannot sleep.

She complained to the mutawifs and asked them to find the driver responsible.

However, they refused to, she said.

The couple is still in Makkah and will not leave until the driver is brought to justice. She is calling on local authorities to intervene and provide treatment to her husband.

She said doctors at Al-Noor Specialist Hospital recommended an artificial hand for her husband.

The head of the Tawafa organization Adeeb Khooj said the bus driver did not flee the scene. He added that he was not aware of the incident and the organization had no connection to the case.

King calls on scholars to follow Qur’an,

Sunnah on new issues

Sunday 9 December 2012

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has called upon Muslim scholars to give their opinion on contemporary issues in the light of the Qur’an and Sunnah.

“Islam is capable of accommodating new changes on the lives of Muslims. This is a great blessing from God. It’s a religion of progress and development,” the king said.

In his keynote address to a meeting of Islamic Fiqh Council, an affiliate of the Muslim World League, King Abdullah cautioned against those who create division in Muslim societies.

Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal delivered the king’s speech, which urged scholars to find Islamic solutions for modern problems without deviating from basic Islamic teachings.

“You have to think about solutions in the light of Islam’s flexibility and moderate teachings. As decided by God, Islam is relevant for all times and places,” the king said.

Recent political and cultural changes in the region should not be allowed to make Muslim youth drift away from basic Islamic teachings.

King Abdullah said the call for sectarianism was the main challenge facing the Ummah, warning it would lead to bloody fighting among Muslims.

He urged religious scholars to give their proposals to strengthen Muslim unity.

King urges Ulema to counter sedition

9 December 2012 - 25 Muharram 1434 H

MAKKAH – King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, has urged Islamic scholars to shoulder their responsibility in effectively countering sedition, which is the grave challenge facing the Ummah.

“The most dangerous challenges are the sedition of Takfeer (labeling others infidels) and sectarianism. It is very important to address these challenges,” the King said Saturday in a speech delivered on his behalf by Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah region, at the opening of the 11th session of the Islamic Fiqh Academy at the headquarters of the Muslim World League (MWL) in Makkah.

King Abdullah cautioned that these are extremely dangerous trends because they divide Muslims, raise sectarian feelings and lead to clashes among Muslims.

The King noted that Islam was a religion capable of embracing all the changes taking place in the life of Muslims, thanks to the presence of eminent scholars among them.

“Always keep pace well with these changes and offer the best solutions in compliance with the Islamic Shariah by taking the advantage of the flexibility of this religion which is based on moderation,” he said.

King Abdullah also highlighted the Kingdom’s efforts to heal the rift among Muslims as well as to close their ranks and consolidate their solidarity.

He invited the participants to a conference on Islamic solidarity to be organized by MWL as part of the Kingdom’s bid to eschew discord among Muslims and counter the sectarian calls.

Sheikh Abdulaziz Aal Al-Sheikh, Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, was among those who attended the opening session.

Mataf expansion to double current capacity

A major feature of the expansion work includes linking
the present mataf with the area outside the Grand Mosque.
Sunday 9 December 2012

A vast expansion project for the mataf, (the circumambulation space around the Kaaba), is currently under way. The new mataf when completed, after three years, will accommodate 130,000 pilgrims in an hour, while the current mataf capacity withstands 52,000 pilgrims.

The Grand Mosque’s Imam and Khatib, Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, who is also president of the Two Holy Mosques Affairs, said in a recent statement that Haj and Umrah pilgrims will not face any difficulties due to lack of space, after the completion of the expansion work. He also added they would have direct access to the mataf from the outer squares, without crossing the ground floor of the mosque.

The expansion project will preserve the existing area, and will be parallel to it, but at a lower level.

“The work has been launched at the eastern side of the mataf, which has a bottleneck problem, as that side is running parallel to the masaa (the running area between Safa and Marwah). The bottle neck problem begins at the middle of the north eastern side and extends to the southern side up to the Al-Safa Gate of the Grand Mosque,” Al-Sudais said in a recent statement.

The expansion work will also put in place an integrated system to make tawaf and running between Safa and Marwah more disabled-friendly, the sheikh said.

“There will be a network of bridges and pedestrian pathways to reduce the crowding in the mosque,” he said.

The work will also ensure maximum safety and cleanliness at the mataf and other parts of the mosque, he added.

The move, which has been welcomed by senior religious scholars, will considerably reduce the crowding, especially during Haj season, when millions of pilgrims perform the tawaf, every day of Haj and the days preceding and succeeding it.

A major feature of the expansion work includes linking the present mataf with the area outside the Grand Mosque. The area behind the Ottoman structure will be demolished and re-built with one basement, three floors and a roof, all without pillars and all for tawaf
only.

Minister of Haj, Bandar Hajjar said the authorities have no plans to restrict the number of pilgrims during the next Umrah season, denying reports that the number of pilgrims would be drastically cut to speed up the expansion work.

The expansion work began on Nov. 15, even though preparatory work started much earlier.

Mataf Expansion Project

____________________

The Custodian of al-Haramain King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz's Project
to increase the capacity of the Mataf:

-The proposition of a project to increase the capacity of the mataf was shown to King Abdullah in Ramadhan 1432 Hijri who directed to start implementing it.

-King Abdullah assigned the Ministry of Higher Education, General Authority of Masjid al Haram and Masjid al Nabawi and Saudi Bin Laden Group (Working team) to finish the studies on developing the proposed solution.

-The working team recommended a number of studies which were presented to King Abdullah, as follows:

1-Studies regarding air movement in Mataf Expansion and First Saudi Expansion.
2-Studies regarding the building structure of the First Saudi Expansion.
3-Studies regarding Automated systems for Tawaf and Sa'ee for people with special needs.
4-Studies regarding systems for shading the new mataf and the roof of Haram.
5-Studies regarding crowd movement through an integrated system beginning from outside Masjid-al-Haram and the areas surrounding it.

-King Abdullah ordered that these recommended studies be conducted urgently.

-The proposed design was shown to the Supreme Hajj Committee after the Hajj Season of 1432H and they ordered to conduct studies regarding increasing the width of the

Mataf with repititive floors and studies regarding re-building the structure of the First Saudi Expansion.

-The team of Ministry of Higher Education and General Authority of Masjid-al-Haram and Masjid-al-Nabawi arranged a work shop with the Security forces in the month of

Rabi-ul-awwal 1433H to inform them about the proposed design and to take their opinion and to find out their demands.

-The meetings of the working team continued in order to develop the proposed solution including the observations and recommendations of the security forces. Some of

the important observations which were taken into account are:
1-Studying and assessing of the structural system of the First Saudi Expansion.
2-Paying attention to crowd movement and fragmentation of human blocks inside and outside Masjid-al-Haram.
3-To Facilitate the entry and exit movement in the entrances of the Masjid al Haram building so as to provide safety and security to the visitors.
4-Preparing passages and roads leading to Masjid al Haram and developing a guidance system to facilitate the arrival and departure.
5-Developing a system for shading the mataf courtyard and the roof of Masjid al Haram and the external squares surrounding it.
6-Providing specific and separate passages to people with special needs and the elderly and developing an automated system to serve them.
7-The importance of linking (the Mataf) with the Third Saudi Expansion and activating the basement level.

-The Ministry team assigned a number of consulting offices (in the field of structural studies and supporting and re-enforcing structures) to study and assess the structural system of the First Saudi Expansion and its ability to cope with the above-mentioned demands. The results of this study suggested that the current structure was unable to support additional upper floors and future demands.

-The Ministry team and a representative of the Genral Authority recommended that the First Saudi Expansion should be rebuilt complying with the same standards that were used in building the Third Saudi Expansion.

-Based on the above, the proposed project was developed to raise the capacity of the Mataf and the parts attatched to it.
