Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has died, state television reported early on Friday and his brother Salman became king, it said in a statement attributed to Salman.
King Salman has called on the family's Allegiance Council to pay allegiance to Muqrin as his crown prince and heir.

Funeral prayer for the late King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was performed at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh on Friday.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud participated in the prayer.
Prince Bandar bin Abdulaziz Al Saud; Prince Mamdouh bin Abdulaziz Al Saud; Prince Abdul-Illah bin Abdulaziz Al Said, Advisor to the Custodian of the Two holy Mosques; Prince Ahmad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud; Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Deputy Premier; Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior.
The funeral prayer was also performed by King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain; Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah of Kuwait; Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar; President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of the Turkish Republic; President Omar Hassan Ahmad Al Bashir of Sudan; Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa of Bahrain; Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab of the Arab Republic of Egypt; Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan; Deputy Prime Minister for Cabinet Affairs Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Saeed of Oman; Speaker of Algerian National Assembly Abdulqader bin Saleh; Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Sharjah; Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al-Qasimi, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah; Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member State United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Ajman and Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman.
The funeral prayer was led by Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al Al-Sheikh, Grand Mufti of the Kingdom.
The sons of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, princes, sheikhs, ministers, civil and military senior officials and a group of citizens performed the funeral prayer for the soul of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
Following the funeral prayer, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud received condolences from leaders, presidents and heads of delegations who participated in the prayer.
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques also received condolences from princes, sheikhs and senior officials.

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud participated in burying ceremony of the body of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud at Al-Oud Cemetery.
Prince Abdul-Illah bin Abdulaziz Al Said, Advisor to the Custodian of the Two holy Mosques; Prince Ahmad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud; Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Deputy Premier; sons of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud; sheikhs, ministers, civil and military senior officials and a group of citizens participated in the burying ceremony.

MADINAH — The first trains to be launched on the tracks by Madinah railway station were set in motion to Jeddah on Tuesday, Al-Madina reported.
Many passersby showed their excitement over the new train carriages by taking photos and videos.
A spokesman from the new development stated that the number of the carriages that arrived at Jeddah Islamic Port have reached 14 so far.
The technical team is working on launching the first trial of carts before the grand opening.
He also added that the stations in Makkah, Jeddah, Rabigh and Madinah are 90 percent completed.
So far, the route distance takes up about 450 km.
The project represents a major innovative development in the country that aims to facilitate fast transportation between the Makkah and Madinah regions.
