Seasonal administrative committees at the General Directorate of Passports in Al-Shumaisi and Taif have charged 218 citizens and 36 residents with smuggling illegal and unlicensed pilgrims into the holy sites during Haj.

The director general of the Passport Department in Makkah, Col. Khlaf Allah Al-Tuwairqi, said the committees also booked 53 vehicles whose owners have been arrested for helping transport illegal pilgrims more than once.

Al-Tuwairqi called on visitors coming to the Kingdom to perform Haj or Umrah to comply with the laws of the land and leave the country after completing their religious duties before the expiry of their visas.

Meanwhile, the General Directorate of Passports issued a list of possible penalties against those found violating any of the regulations.

Any individual involved in transporting pilgrims without a license faces a fine of SR100,000 and a jail sentence of up to two years. Any pilgrim who attempts to perform Haj without obtaining a necessary permit will be immediately deported and denied entry to the Kingdom for 10 years. Pilgrims or groups who do not depart the country on expiration of their visas will be subject to a fine of SR15,000 and immediate deportation upon their first offense. A second offense will incur a fine of SR25,000, a 3 month prison term and deportation effective immediately.

Should a third offense occur, a fine of SR50,000 will apply, along with a six-month jail sentence and deportation.

Individuals found to be assisting or covering for others who violate the regulations will be fined between SR15,000 and SR100,000, and will be subject to a prison sentence of up to six months.

Haj companies or institutions which fail to report to authorities information about any pilgrim who has not departed the country after their visa has expired could be fined between SR25,000 and SR100,000.

Companies or individuals that employ illegal pilgrims to work for them will also be fined between SR25,000 and SR100,000, and may be prevented from recruiting any worker for a period of five years. The director of these institutions will be sentenced to a prison term of one year.

More than 60 percent of accidents in Makkah are due to large trucks which block traffic for hours causing traffic jams and inconvenience to motorists.

In light of this, the Traffic Department has allocated specific times for the trucks to enter Makkah due to the large-scale projects taking place in the holy city and its keenness to ensure the safety of road users and smooth flow of traffic at peak times.

Director of traffic in Makkah Salman Al-Jemiei said that large trucks would be prevented from entering Makkah from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in order to ease the movement of small vehicles in the city.

He added that more than 500 large trucks had been banned from entering the holy city and its surrounding areas over the past week and stressed that violators would be dealt with severely.

The department said that it was monitoring all large vehicles, especially trucks to ensure that they were complying with the traffic regulations.

Spokesman of the traffic department in Makkah Capt. Ali Al-Zahrani said that several police patrols had been deployed to stop trucks entering the holy city, arrest drivers who were circumventing the regulations and avoiding checkpoints put up to bar them entry.

After performing their pilgrimage to the holy sites, pilgrims are preparing to return to their home countries by purchasing gifts and artifacts that remind them of the Holy Places they visited.

Arab News spoke to a group of Indian pilgrims to better understand their views on their trip as they returned home.

Initially, pilgrim Ahmed Ansari said, “after performing Haj, we had a lot of free time to do other things. We did not face any difficulties in performing the rituals of Haj, because we have had so much help from the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The program was to visit the historical sites and known mosques. Now, it’s time to get ready for the trip home. I bought gifts, dates and some haberdashery, as well as various items from clothing stores.”

Pilgrim Mohammed Zain A-Dine said, “Madinah’s gifts are different, and because of this, everyone is keen to buy their gifts from the Prophet’s city, such as Ajwah dates, Al-Safawi and Al-Ambarh dates and some other well-known dates. Some people prefer gemstone and silver accessories, though.”

Pilgrim Shihab Al-Islam said, “Some pilgrims bring gifts from Makkah, like Zamzam water. During the visit to Madinah, they buy beads, dates, rugs and accessories. I haven’t bought any of these larger things, but I did buy some light gifts so I can carry them. I only bought perfumes and light accessories.”

Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh has urged Muslims to maintain unity amid turbulent times.

Al-Asheikh, also president of the Council of Senior Scholars, made the remark during a recent statement congratulating Muslims on the advent of the new Hijri year.

On his weekly radio show, broadcasted live from Makkah, Al-Asheikh urged Muslims to stand strong in the face of discord.

“The Islamic nation is going through difficult times, where enemies are trying to create division for political gain,” he said.

The mufti highlighted the importance of cohesion in the face of external factors.

“Our enemies spark rivalry and foster animosity among Muslims to keep them preoccupied with conflict while they take over the reigns of power and hegemony,” he said.

He expressed regret over the ongoing turmoil in Iraq, Yemen and Libya.
“The bombings, destruction and bloody conflicts prevalent in Muslim countries have destroyed infrastructures and displaced thousands,” he said.

“This is why it is all the more vital for us to remain united and turn to the Qur’an and Prophetic tradition for salvation.”

مفاجأة الفصل

يذكر أن اللجنة الإشرافية على أعمال نزع الملكيات وترحيل الخدمات بمشروع خادم الحرمين الشريفين الملك عبدالله بن عبدالعزيز لتوسعة المسجد النبوي قد أعلنت في وقت سابق بشأن استقبال مستندات تملك العقارات لاستكمال إجراءات التعويض وكذلك الإعلان عن تحديد المناطق العاجلة وإعلان فصل الخدمات عنها وقد نوهت اللجنة بأصحاب العقارات الواقعة في المناطق المشار إليها في وقت سابق سرعة التقدم بممتلكاتهم الشرعية إلى مكاتب البريد السعودي لاستكمال إجراءات تعويضاتهم من قبل لجان النزع المكلفة بالمشروع وإخلاء هذه المواقع قبل المدة المحددة لفصل الخدمات والصرف والإفراغات قبل موعد فصل الخدمات عن المناطق المقرر إزالتها.

من جهته تساءل رئيس مجموعة إنها طيبة المهتمة بتوثيق معالم المدينة المنورة الباحث أحمد صديق: هل نقول وداعا لهذا المسجد التاريخي، بطرازه المعماري المتميز الذي بدا عليه أخيرا، والذي نتذكر فيه عبق التاريخ؟وأشار صديق إلى ما ورد عن هذا المسجد في كثير من الروايات بينها ما ذكره صحيح مسلم أن الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم أقبل ذات يوم من العالية، حتى إذا مر بمسجد بني معاوية، دخل فركع فيه ركعتين وصلينا معه ودعا ربه طويلا.

وقال الباحث في تاريخ المدينة المنورة فؤاد المغامسي إن ما اتضح وتداول أن ذلك المسجد التاريخي سيتم إزالته ضمن المواقع المزالة في تلك المنطقة، مشيرا أنه إذا ما اندرس موقعه فسيكون له أثر في وجدان أهل طيبة وزوارها، خاصة أن مكانته متداوله منذ عصر التدوين وإلى اليوم في مصادر ومراجع تاريخ معالم المدينة المنورة قديما وحديثا وموصوف في كتب الرحالة.

وتمنى المغامسي من القائمين على مشروع التوسعة الكبرى للمسجد النبوي الشريف بالإيعاز للمهندسين والمعماريين بأخذ هذا المكان في عين الاعتبار من حيث تحديد موقعه ووضع حدوده وعلاماته في التوسعة الجديدة ليبقى مكانه، وهذا هو المأمول منهم إن شاء الله.

وقد ذكر هذا المسجد عدد من المصادر التاريخية بينها وفاء الوفاء، وعمدة الأخبار، والتحفة اللطيفة في تاريخ المدينة الشريفة، والمدينة المنورة في رحلة العياشي، وأشهر المساجد في الإسلام وغيرها من مصادر.
