(MENAFN - Jordan Times) His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday inaugurated the Prophet Mohammad Museum at the King Hussein Mosque.
The King toured the facility, where some of the prophet's belongings were on display, including a single hair from his beard and his letter to the Byzantine emperor of Eastern Roman Empire, in which he urged him to covert to Islam, a Royal Court statement said.
The museum also includes a sapling of the tree under which Prophet Mohammad rested on his way to the Levant for trade in the pre-Islam era. The tree is located in the badia region.
HRH Prince Ghazi, chief adviser to the King for religious and cultural affairs and the King's personal envoy, also attended the inauguration ceremony along with Royal Court Chief Riyad Abu Karaki, Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Abdul Salam Abbadi and other senior officials and officers.
Speaking to the Jordan News Agency, Petra, Abbadi said the museum's belongings hold significant value in the history of Islam.
"The concerned authorities in Jordan will work to bring more of the prophet's belongings to the museum," the minister said.
The museum's design is inspired by Islamic architecture through its domes, arches and the murals and etchings of Koranic verses, King Hussein Mosque's Imam Ghaleb Rababaa told Petra.

The exterior of the King Hussein Bin Talal Mosque, built to reflect the Umayyad architecture prevalent in many historic sites around Jordan and is both the country’s national mosque and also it’s largest.

كشفت الجمعية الفلكية بجدة أن سماء مكة المكرمة تشهد ظهر الأحد المقبل 6 رجب الموافق 27 مايو واحدة من أهم الظواهر السماوية حيث تتعامد الشمس على الكعبة المشرفة وهو التعامد الأول خلال السنة الشمسية الكبيسة الحالية.وبين رئيس الجمعية المهندس ماجد ابوزاهرة: أن الشمس تشرق في سماء مكة المكرمة الساعة 5:38 صباحا وتستمر في حركتها ” الظاهرية ” إلى أن تتوسط السماء وتصبح على استقامة واحدة مع الكعبة المشرفة الساعة 12:18 توقيت أذان الظهر.حيث سيلاحظ المتواجدون في المسجد الحرام اختفاء ظل الكعبة المشرفة وظلال جميع الأجسام حيث يكون ظل الزوال صفرا وفي ذلك التوقيت ستكون الشمس مشاهدة في المناطق المجاورة للقطب الشمالي وقارة إفريقيا وأوروبا والصين وروسيا وشرق آسيا، والأجزاء الشرقية من لأمريكتين .
ويمكن الاستفادة من هذه الظاهرة للمناطق البعيدة جغرافيا عن مكة المكرمة وذلك من خلال غرس قطعة من الخشب أو غيرها بشكل عمودي على سطح الأرض وعند توقيت التعامد فان الاتجاه المعاكس للظل يشير إلى الكعبة المشرفة علما بان هذه الطريقة غير مفيدة بالنسبة للمناطق القريبة من مكة المكرمة مثل جدة والطائف.
ويرجع سبب حدوث هذه الظاهرة إلى أن الكعبة المشرفة تقع بين خط الاستواء ومدار السرطان ، حيث يحدث التعامد مرتين في كل العام أثناء حركه الشمس ” ظاهريا “ من خط الاستواء إلى السرطان خلال شهر مايو ، و عند عودة الشمس جنوبا إلى خط الاستواء قادمة من مدار السرطان في شهر يوليو من كل عام.
وحذرت الجمعية من النظر المباشر لقرص الشمس سواء في توقيت التعامد أو في باقي أيام السنة من خلال التلسكوبات والمناظير الغير مزودة بمرشحات ضوئية نظرا لان هذه الأجهزة تعمل على تركيز أشعة الشمس وأخطرها الأشعة ما فوق البنفسجية التي تتسبب في حرق شبكية العين .

Islamic Cultural Capitals
Every year a handful of cities across the Islamic world are chosen to be Islamic Cultural Capitals; cities which are emblematic of the best that contemporary and traditional Islamic culture has to offer.
The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO), based in Rabat, Morocco, has the ambitious plan of strengthening, promoting and consolidating cooperation between the member states, through education and scientific projects. One such project is the naming of three or four cities each year as Islamic Culture Capitals; one each in Africa, the Middle East and Asia. It gives the cities an opportunity to develop their architectural and cultural assets, with the view of educating the people about the importance of history in their region.
The cities chosen for 2012 are: Najaf, Iraq; Dhaka, Bangladesh; Niamey, Niger.
In 2013 the cities are: Tripoli, Lebanon; Al-Madinah al-Munawarah, Saudi Arabia; Ghazni, Afghanistan; Kano, Nigeria.

MAKKAH — Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah region, Monday signed two contracts worth SR1.9 billion to construct new roads, bridges and tunnels in Makkah.
The contracts, part of the King Abdullah Construction Project for Makkah, were signed with Saudi Binladen Group which has been given 36 months to complete the projects.
The first contract focuses on the remaining parts of the second ring road while the second covers the third phase of the third ring road in the holy city. For the second ring road project, Al-Nakasa Bridge in Al-Kakiya District will be extended while new bridges will be erected at Al-Tandabawee and Al-Biban districts. The total cost of the project is SR460 million. Compensation for about 1038 acquired properties will reach SR8 billion.
For the third ring road project, bridges and tunnels will be constructed in different areas including Al-Jamarat Square located between Prince Majed Street and King Fahd Road. Al-Haj Street will be extended from both sides.
The total cost of implementing this project is SR1.5 billion while compensation for 830 acquired properties is set at SR3.2 billion.
Prince Khaled said all projects in the 10-year plan for developing the region announced four years ago were on track.
He wished all the best for those involved in the development of the Makkah region and hoped that they would complete their projects on time.
