Makkah Grand Mosque hosts 'First House' exhibition in 10 languages during Ramadan

MAKKAH — The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque is holding “First House” exhibition in 10 languages ​​during Ramadan 2025 with the aim of shedding light on the history of the construction of the Holy Ka'aba throughout the ages, starting from the era of the Prophet Abraham, peace be upon him, until the present day.

The exhibition, being held in the third Saudi expansion of the mosque, is a unique opportunity for visitors and pilgrims to explore the stages of building the Holy Ka'aba through visual displays, motion graphics, and historical artifacts. In addition, interactive screens provide information in Arabic and English, enriching the cognitive experience of attendees.

It also includes several main themes shedding light on various features of the Holy Ka'aba. They include the construction of the Holy Ka'aba, the changes that occurred to it over the ages, the tools used in its maintenance and washing, and the stages of making its covering.

This exhibition comes as part of the efforts of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques to enrich the experience of the Guests of God and to acquaint Muslims with the history of the Grand Mosque and the Holy Ka'aba.

AI-operated Qur’an-learning project launched in Makkah



MAKKAH: Sheikh Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, head of the Presidency of Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, has launched an artificial intelligence-powered project in Makkah, Al-Maqraa, which offers Qur’anic education in 10 languages.

Al-Sudais said Al-Maqraa is a platform, available globally, that integrates modern methods, rigorous methodology, and AI technology, the Saudi Press Agency reported recently.

The platform provides recitation, tajweed or proper pronunciation, and memorization courses under the supervision of qualified teachers.

It includes a Shariah-compliant administrative system for monitoring Qur’anic study circles, detailed analytical reports, stimulating learning environment, flexible enrollment, and an accredited certification system.

The project aims to instill Islamic values in the minds of Qur’an students at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, the SPA reported.

Over 4.87 million Iftar meals served at Two Holy Mosques during first week of Ramadan

MAKKAH — The General Authority for the Care of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque has distributed 4,879,682 Iftar meals among worshipers at the Two Holy Mosques during the first week of Ramadan. In addition to the meals, the consumption of Zamzam water reached 8,393 cubic meters.

Additionally, the Black Stone, Al-Multazam, and the Yemeni Corner are perfumed five times daily with amber and rose oil before each prayer.

Over 320 million phone calls made in Makkah and Madinah during first half of Ramadan

JEDDAH — The Communications, Space, and Technology Commission (CST) reported robust telecommunications network performance in Makkah and Madinah during the first half of Ramadan. Over 320 million calls were made in both the holy cities, with Makkah accounting for 184 million local and 21 million international calls, while Madinah recorded 107 million local and 10 million international calls.

According to the commission statistics, 5G coverage reached 98 percent in Makkah and 99 percent in Madinah. Average daily data consumption per capita significantly surpassed global averages, reaching 1190MB in Makkah (three times the global average) and 1495MB in Madinah (four times the global average). Mobile internet speeds averaged 210 Mbps in Makkah and 278 Mbps in Madinah.

RIYADH — The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) revealed that the number of Umrah pilgrims increased by 31 percent during the fourth quarter of 2024 compared to the same quarter in 2023.

According to the report on Umrah statistics for the fourth quarter of 2024, published by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) on Thursday, males constituted about 53 percent of the Umrah pilgrims, while females accounted for 47 percent. Saudi nationals comprised 4.5 percent of the total, with the Makkah Region recording the highest number of domestic Umrah performers.

The report also indicated that there has been a 26.2 percent increase in the number of foreign Umrah pilgrims during the quarter compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Of these, 64.7 percent arrived with an Umrah visa. December saw the highest number of foreign Umrah pilgrims reaching 38.2 percent, while November recorded the highest percentage of domestic Umrah pilgrims completing the ritual for one time, representing 34 percent of the total.

Umrah statistics have been issued quarterly since 2024, detailing the numbers and percentages of domestic and international Umrah pilgrims based on data from the Pilgrim Experience Program, along with approved statistical models.
