Is it easy to find breakfast places in makkah and madinah. I have found some good hotels at reasonable rate but their breakfast cost is extortionate per person so adds up considerably when it's a family.

Breakfast can be found in any of the food halls in the malls and in the streets.

We used to have breakfast in Makkah in the hotel/mall to the left of the clock tower on the side street and eat "Mutabbaq" and similar items everyday. No need for lunch if you have a late breakfast.

No entry to Makkah without permit for expats

For expatriates to enter the holy city, one of the following documents is required: An entry permit to work in the holy sites issued by the competent authority, a residency permit (iqama) issued from Makkah, an Umrah permit or a Hajj permit. (SPA)

MAKKAH: The General Directorate of Public Security has required expatriates wishing to enter Makkah for Hajj to obtain a permit from authorities starting Thursday.

For expatriates to enter the holy city, one of the following documents is required: An entry permit to work in the holy sites issued by the competent authority, a residency permit (iqama) issued from Makkah, an Umrah permit or a Hajj permit.

Brig. Gen. Sami Al-Shuwairekh, the spokesman for Public Security, said that the measure was in line with the regulations for the Hajj pilgrimage for this year.

“As per these instructions, only expatriates who obtain a permit for entry to Makkah will be allowed into the holy city from Thursday. They can obtain permits from the competent authorities. All vehicles and residents that do not have the required documents will be turned back,” Al-Shuwairekh said.

Ahmed Saleh Al-Halabi, who specializes in Hajj and Umrah services, told Arab News that the changes are a result of years of monitoring entry to the holy sites. Practical measures can safely organize the entry of residents to Makkah, he said.

“This is in order to eradicate all sorts of infiltration of the holy sites, especially for residents who do not hold permits, and who are on vacation from their work and head to Makkah to work, or stay with their relatives and friends, and then infiltrate the holy sites to perform the pilgrimage. And as a result, they stay on sidewalks and sleep there which would impact the environment and the level of public cleanliness,” he added.

Dr. Othman Qazzaz, head of the media research and studies department at the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Institute for Hajj and Umrah Research, told Arab News that the Kingdom is also making efforts to improve logistics services during Hajj, aiming to host a successful pilgrimage season.

Three types of camps for housing domestic pilgrims in Mina
Fourth type outside Mina in pipeline

May 27, 2022

Pilgrims camps in Mina.

Okaz/Saudi Gazette

MAKKAH — The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah is expected to announce soon procedural guidelines for housing domestic pilgrims during the upcoming Hajj.

Okaz/Saudi Gazette has learned from the ministry sources that the General Administration for Domestic Pilgrims at the ministry will divide the camps for housing domestic pilgrims in Mina area into three segments and packages. The first segment is Mina towers while the second is the tents developed by Kedana Company. The third is undeveloped tents titled ‘hospitality tents’.

The ministry explores the possibility of introducing a fourth segment of housing outside the area of the holy sites in the event of getting approval from the authorities for the accommodation of pilgrims outside the holy sites. Under this segment titled ‘hospitality plus’ package, housing will be provided in licensed buildings in Makkah.

It has been decided that a maximum number of six pilgrims will be accommodated in the developed tent with an area of 2.5 sq. meters per pilgrim, while the number of pilgrims in the undeveloped tent will be 10, at an average of 1.6 sq. meters per pilgrim.

Out of the total one million pilgrims who will be allowed to perform Hajj this year, the vast majority of 850,000 (85 percent) pilgrims are from abroad while the domestic pilgrims account for only 15 percent or 150,000 pilgrims.

PIA to charge private Hajj pilgrims in dollars

ISLAMABAD: For the first time in history, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will charge fares in US dollars from private Hajj pilgrims, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

According to details, the national flag carrier — Pakistan International Airline (PIA) — has unveiled ticketing details for Hajj operations, likely to begin from June 6.

The airfares for the pilgrims from Southern region and Northern region are likely to remain in the range of $810 to $1,100 and $860 to $1,150 respectively, according to PIA.

The decision to charge pilgrims flying on a private scheme in dollars was taken one and half years back but its implementation could not take place due to the COVID pandemic.

Separately, the Ministry of Religious Affairs has delayed the announcement of flight operation for Hajj 2022 as it failed to make a final decision.

The session for finalising the Hajj policy chaired by the secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs remained inconclusive.

Sources told ARY News that the Hajj flight operation has been restricted to five cities instead of eight, whereas, the Hajj flights will begin on June 5 or 6.

The airlines including Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) are facing difficulties to devise the Hajj flight plans that had earlier been decided to commence from May 31.

Earlier, ARY News had reported that the Hajj schedule is likely to be delayed due to administrative flaws which increase the troubles of the Hajj pilgrims across the country.
