MAKKAH — The plazas around the Grand Mosque in Makkah have been divided into six zones to properly manage the flow of pilgrims and visitors during the holy month of Ramadan.
Tariq Al-Malki, director of the department of plazas at the Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, told Makkah Arabic daily on Monday that the six zones will be manned by about 200 permanent and part-time supervisors.
The northern areas of the King Abdullah Expansion Project have been marked as the first zone.
The area between Ali Gate and Al-Marwa has been marked as second zone, the area from Ajyad entrance to the gate number 88 is the third zone, the area from Al-Shabakiyyah to Dar Al-Tawheed is the fourth, the area covering Dar Al-Tawheed and King Fahd Gate is the fifth.
The space between King Fahd Gate and the walkway number 87 has been marked as the sixth zone.
Al-Malki said special passages will be prepared to facilitate the entry of pilgrims and visitors to the Grand Mosque.
The passages of Al-Raqooba and Al-Fath Gate have been specially prepared for the movement of pilgrims and visitors coming from the northeastern side of the Grand Mosque.
The director said that his department will organize the iftar (breaking the fasting) and grant permits to charity organizations wishing to offer iftar meals.
The official said the department will thoroughly check iftar meals and will cooperate with the security authorities to prevent squatting along the passages and walkways.
Al-Malki said vendors and beggars will be prevented from coming anyway near the plazas.

JEDDAH: Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir slammed Iran for its attempt at politicizing the annual Haj pilgrimage.
Speaking at a joint press conference with visiting British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond on Sunday, Al-Jubeir said: “Iran demanded the right to organize demonstrations and to have privileges that would cause chaos during the Haj. This is unacceptable.”
He said Saudi Arabia agreed to facilitate the travel arrangements of Iranian pilgrims despite having no diplomatic ties or air links with Tehran.
“Iran’s intention from the start was to maneuver and find excuses in order to prevent its citizens from performing Haj,” he said. “They are now answerable to Allah.”
Al-Jubeir blamed Iran for the chaos and disorder in Iraq.
“Sedition and division in Iraq are the results of sectarian policies that grew out of Iran’s divisive policies in Iraq,” he said.
He said Iran had created a mess in Iraq by supporting Shiite militias. “If Iran wants stability in Iraq, it has to stop intervening and withdraw,” he said.
“You cannot have peace in Iraq with (Iranian General) Qassem Soleimani leading the campaign against Sunnis,” he said.
Tehran has dispatched heavy military contingents to help organize Shiite militias in Iraq and also to Syria to help dictator Bashar Assad. It said its military contingents were sent to the two countries at the host governments’ requests.
Al-Jubeir said: “Iranian presence in Iraq, with or without invitation, is unacceptable.”
“Iran should respect the principle of good neighborly relations in order to focus on its internal situation and not intervene in the affairs of other countries in the region,” Al-Jubeir said. “Iran stands isolated because it sponsors terrorism.”

JEDDAH — The Zamzam Well pumps 11 to 19 liters of water a second and is located 20 meters away from the Kaaba.
Saudi Geological Survey President Zuhair Nawab said the story of Zamzam Well is historical and the well turned the dry and deserted city of Makkah into a populated land.
“The story of Zamzam water starts with Prophet Ibrahim, his wife Hajer and their son Ismael. The well is thousands of years old and it still pumps enough water to quench the thirst of an entire city. The well turned Makkah into the most visited city in the Kingdom,” said Nawab.
He added many people from south of the Arabian Peninsula would come all the way to Makkah to fill their barrels with Zamzam water and then they take it home to their friends and families.
“Certain families in Makkah took over the responsibility of pouring Zamzam water for all those who visit the well. The responsibility became a family tradition. In 2010, the Kingdom announced a big project to purify Zamzam water. The project had a budget of SR700 million,” said Nawab.
He added the factory to purify the water was built near the Grand Mosque to serve pilgrims.
“King Abdullah Zamzam Water Factory produces 200,000 water bottles a day and it is around 10 liters of Zamzam water a day. The factory produces more during Ramadan and Haj seasons. The survey aims to produce enough studies to enable the Kingdom from providing Zamzam water to Makkah and Madinah all year round,” said Nawab.
He also said the survey set up a research center specifically for Zamzam water and its purpose is to always ensure that Zamzam water is served at its best quality.
“The center will look into the source of Zamzam water, the type of soil around it and the type of water that comes out. The demand on Zamzam water is growing throughout the Kingdom and not just Makkah. The number of pilgrims is increasing and the center is expected to be able to conduct a study to find a way to meet all of these demands in the most effective way possible,” said Nawab.

RIYADH: In an effort to maintain the dignity and sanctity of the Two Holy Mosques, the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTNH) has made it mandatory for all operators of tourism accommodations in Makkah and Madinah to stop broadcasting certain TV channels including those airing music and films in these two cities.
According to information made available to an online newspaper, the reason behind these measures taken by the commission was popular demand to restrict certain types of television channels in tourist accommodations because they do not match the sanctity of these two cities. The commission decided to investigate if the order is being taken care of by these facilities. It has also urged citizens and residents to inform if they find any violation of this order.
It said that those accommodation facilities in these cities found violating these orders would be brought to book and punished.
During Ramadan in the past, the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage has fined as much as SR100,000 for such violations. This multiplies with the repetition of the violation or closure of the facilities to end violations in these tourist facilities.
Engineer Khalid Al-Shahrani, director of the branch of the commission, said that there are surveillance teams which visit all tourist accommodation facilities in these two cities under an authorized program to ensure that there is no violation of such orders. These visits also make sure that the quality of services and the rates of these facilities were also according to the rules.
It has urged the citizens and residents to contact on phone number 19988 to register any complaint, give suggestions or for any inquiry in this required. The commission has also prohibited keeping remote controls for these TVs inside hotel rooms.

MAKKAH — The Presidency of the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques has provided new wagons to distribute copies of the Qur’an in the Grand Mosque, Makkah newspaper reported.
Presidency’s head Sheikh Abdulrahman Al-Sudais said since Sunday Qur’an copies are being distributed in the Grand Mosque using specially designed wagons.
“Distributing Qur’an copies in wagons enables many pilgrims and worshipers to get a hold of a Quran as there are shelves set up in stationary places that may not be within everyone’s reach.,” said Al-Sudais.
“The wagons are easy to navigate as they are of a suitable size that does not require a lot of space and can be pushed around between pilgrims,” said Al-Sudais.
