Neither I, and I suspect nor you, have the ability to make that judgement. Muftis contradicting one another regularly. How does a lay person make a judgement who is right and who is wrong?

Asslamo Allaikum Brother,

I sincerely request to consider your emotional state and Insha'Allah we are brothers in Islam if you choose to discuss the matter with a calm demeanour and with the Sunnah and Akhlaaq of Rasul-ullah (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) we can proceed.

It has been repeated MANY TIMES that I am neither issuing judgement nor making you or anyone else take anything. This is a public discussion in which I have quoted Ulama and the Hanafi Madhab.

Again, when your emotions are in check we can proceed until then you are free to do and say as you please and you will be held Accountable in front of Allah (SWT) for your presumptions.

Jazakullah Khairun

P.S: When you want to make your point in a calm manner backed by Shariah, please proceed.

Assalamu Alaykum,

Brother, what you may construe to be emotional might not be so. It may be that your subjective interpretation has led you to an erroneous conclusion. If you choose to skirt the issues raised on the basis that you are rightly or wrongly offended that is your prerogative.

brother muadh alaikum salam,

I do apologise to you again and appreciate that you apparently have not dishonoured the shaykh. however i did not post my first post on this thread in regarding to shaykh abdul raheem rather i was just surprised at the mufti you quoted who said he doesn't follow ml hakeem akhtar in all matters because ml hakeem akhtar despite being an alim is a proper muqallid of hanifi fiqh and follows the zahiri aqwal in matters of dispute and this is only to my understanding. i did not want to talk about shaykh abdul raheem. i dont know him and i am not even from england though i know he's a mufti etc and i've listened to his talks so why should i comment?.also i am neither associated to ml hakeem akhtar in anyway...i just respect him and have seen him but never met(shake hands etc).

No need to apologise, since I was there and heard it live I know exactly what was said and why and perhaps I made an error in explaining.

Shaykh (Maulana) Hakeem Akhtar (HA) is not a Mufti and that's what was being said. Shaykh (Maulana) Ashraf Ali Thanwi (RA) and others have made many such statements about their Shaykh (Haji) Imdadullah Muhajir Makki (RA).

I have the greatest respect for Shaykh (Maulana) Abdur-Raheem Limbada (HA) from Darul-uloom Bury because he sat me down in my younger days (when I was influenced by Salaffiyyah) and took time to answer a lot of questions and instructed me to do my research and consult Ulama i.e. he instructed me to continue to learn and continue to grow.

: - ) Its time to revive the Tassawuff thread again : - )

Asslamo Allaikum,

Yes that's absolutely accurate that the Tassawuff he teaches is Mudallal minul Qur'aan wal-Hadeeth as he has learned from his Shaykh in many years of company.

So how does this contradict with the statement that he is NOT a Mufti in the Hanafi Madhab? Please explain?

Jazakullah Khairun

Asslamo Allaikum,

Unfortunately in my humble view it isn't a futile discussion because you may walk away with an incorrect view of either Shaykh (Mufti) Zubair (HA)'s opinion or about Shaykh (Maulana) Hakeem Akhtar (HA) so the exact words and original quote is reproduced.

It is crystal clear what is being said and from whom it is being said and why it is being said. No one is disrespecting Shaykh (Maulana) Hakeem Akhtar (HA) nor denying his stature nor denying his knowledge of Tassawuff etc.

It is imperative that YOU DO NOT WALK AWAY with incorrect understanding of what is being said or if you don't undersatnd then at least a humble request for you not to convey this to others unless you are CRYSTAL clear of the meaning, intent and context.

This is how misunderstandings start.

[quote="Muadh_Khan"]

Asslamo Allaikum,

German Brother:  Is a Mureed obligated to follow his Shaykh in every way?

Mufti Zubair Dudha (HA): No! unless the Shaykh is a Faqih and his matters in the Fiqh are also Hujja for laymen. Shaykh Imadadullah Mohajir Makki (RA) was the Shaykh of Ulama like (Shaykh) Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (RA) but there were many occasions where they did'nt follow their Shaykh in matters of Fiqh.

There are matters in which I don't follow my Shaykh i.e. Arifbillah (Shaykh) Hakeem Akhtar Saheb (HA) because my Shaykh is not a Faqih.

If your Shaykh is a Shaykh of Tassawuff & also a Faqih (i.e. Mufti Taqi Usmani (HA) or Mufti Ibraheem Desai (HA) or other Mufti) then you follow him in both Tassawuff & Fiqh because he is Hujjah in both.

Otherwise you follow your Shaykh in matters of the heart (Tassawuff).

The underlined explaination is my understanding and the rest of the words are pretty close to the best of my memory.  In UK there are Mashaykh who are neither Muhadith (Scholars of Hadeeth) nor Fuqaha (Scholars of Fiqh) and their Mureeds (students) follow them in these matters and thats' the problem!

The Summary of the whole discussion is people have different levels of expertise in different areas.

Tassawuff is about following the Shaykh in matters of HEART and getting your Islah done UNLESS your Shaykh happens to be a Faqih as well and that's all which is being said.

Asslamo Allaikum Respected Brother in Islam,

You started the discussion and I have tried my best to explain the matter in return as courtesy as it is Sunnah.

It is apparent that I lack the skills and know-how to do so.

This is neither  controversial matter nor an issue of difference of opinion and it is perhaps.

Ulama have different areas of speciality i.e:

  1. Some specialise in Fiqh
  2. Some specialise in Hadeeth
  3. Some specialise in Tafseer
  4. Some specialise in Qir'aat
  5. Some specialise in Tassawuff
  6. And very rarely you have outstanding personalities which are specialists in ALL or most of these sciences

Shaykh (Haji) Imdadullah Muhajir Makki (RA) was a specialist in Tassawuff not in 1, 2, 3 or 4.

Similarly if a person's Shaykh is a specialist in "1" as well as "5" then the Mureed can follow him in both and get their Tassawuff & Fatwa from the same Shaykh IF not their Shaykh refers them to consult a Mufti (i.e. one is specialist in "1"), this is for laymen. This is common practise where even a "Maulana (let alone a laymen Shaykh)" may refer his Mureeds to a "Mufti" instead of giving them Fiqh advice.

The rules for Ulama and Muftees are obviously different as they may be specialist in 1, 2, 3 & 4 themselves OR may refer to their teachers or other Ulama.

Shaykh (Maulana) Hakeem Akhtar (HA) regularly and frequently refers people to consult Shaykh (Mufti) Rasheed Ahmed Ludhyanwi (RA) or now Shaykh (Mufti) Taqi Usmani (HA) and other Muftees.

There are people who are eye-witnesses even in UK who saw and witnessed Shakhul-Hadeeth (Maulana) Zakariyya Kandhalwi (RA) referring his Mureeds to a "Mufti" for Fatwa.

Even a Shaykh who is a "Mufti" may refer to another "Mufti" for confirmation etc. There are many questions in Ahsul-Fatawa which are from "Muftees" asking for clarification or confirmation from Shaykh (Mufti) Rasheed Ahmed Ludhyanwi (RA).

Shaykh (Maulana) Abdur-Raheem Limbada (HA) very often refers OR quotes Shaykh (Mufti) Shabbir Saheb (HA) even though he is a Mufti himself!

So again I humbly request you and everybody else to NOT discuss or forward this conversation unless and until you understand this point beyond any ambiguity.

Again stressing, this has nothing to do with respect, stature and dignity of any Shaykh let alone Shaykh (Maulana) Hakeem Akhtar (HA) OR Shaykh (Maulana) Abdur-Raheem Limbada (HA) and that should be beyond any doubt and may Allah (SWT) save us from such matters.

Jazakullah Khairun

P.S: I have exhausted my human best to try to clarify this matter so you don't walk away with ambiguity and confusion and to Allah (SWT) we acknowledge our weakness.

Salaam, I was taking part in this discussion last but had to fly out and didnt manage to continue with it.

Can we start a new thread regarding the conversation that took place in the first few posts regarding the recitation of Quran at such speeds and Tahujjud Salah in Jamaat.

Because its happening again.
