Unilever Walls Ice Cream 2009 Product Info

**Until they comply, we cannot take any queries for Wall's Unilever Ice Cream whatsoever. Since we do not have the information we require, we cannot respond**

Despite contacting Unilever Wall's several times , they have not acknowledged, responded or replied to us. Wall's Unilever Ice Cream is one of the first companies working Foodguide since our inception. We have had regular updates from Unilever, but it seems in the 6-7 months, they are dragging their feet, to the extent of totally ignoring our requests.

We spend many hours of our spare time convincing, advising companies, ultimately trying to get the Muslim Consumer the best Halaal experience. Remember, that as well as being a non-profit organisation, all work by our Ulamaa is for the Sake of Allah.

Now the spotlight is on you folks! We rely much on Muslim Consumer Power at times like these. The easiest thing to do is "leave it to someone else". Please don't leave it for someone else - empower yourself.

We have had experience of extremely stubborn companies, who melted by the one morning of protest emails, resulting in the Managing Director ringing me direct asking to stop the Consumer protest, and dates for the Product List. Your efforts are not wasted Insha-Allah. The trick is to respond as quickly as possible, so that their mailbox fills up, and the pressure is then on the Company to do something, so don't delay.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

CONTACT Unilever Wall's - EMAIL & TELEPHONE: EMAIL ADDRESS

(THIS EMAIL IS NOT USED FOR QUESTIONS, JUST FOR LOBBYING)
Please email, or phone them to urge them to provide Foodguide Services required.

WHAT WILL YOU WRITE?
Simply, we want you to ask
Unilever Walls Ice Cream to work with www.foodguide.org.uk as they had been. Please note: That is it! You may be professional, polite, persuasive or passive but under no circumstances must you be rude. Islam does not condone rude behaviour and it does not help our cause. At the very least you may copy and paste this message in a new message.

DON'T FORWARD THIS UPDATE AS IT LOOKS TERRIBLY UNPROFESSIONAL!:

Start =======================================

Dear customer services,

As a Muslim, to eat Halaal is very important. I understand that the Foodguide UK is awaiting specific data from your company. As a member of the Muslim community, I must urge Unilever Ice Cream to comply with the Foodguide's request for more information. Muslims rely on Foodguide
Web-site Halaal issues. For Muslims to have a central, authentic location for Halaal updates is most important.

I must insist that your company does comply like scores of major, prominent corporations like Cadbury's, Mars, Coca Cola, Ferrero Rocher, Britvic Drinks, and Swizzels Matlow. If I do not see a change in your policy then I am afraid I must consider boycotting your products in favour of those products who do. I will also urge my friends and family to do the same.

I am sure that your organisation will work with the GMWA Foodguide UK to help Muslims consume Halaal.

Please contact www.foodguide.org.uk and let me know what your company decides.

Yours sincerely

[your name Here]

---end---

May I request you personally to take part in this protest as a matter of urgency.

Ameen. The above email, reply and information was all prepared by Mufti Abdullah Patel (of Halaal foodguide). May Allah reward his efforts.

It's a shame, only 4 appreciations? I have logs of how many people visit and only 4 appreciations? I hope more have taken action, that's what matters.

Once again, Please (click here to) "Appreciate" this topic for the work carried out by Foodguide and to let us know you have done something about it.

From Mufti Abdullah Patel Sahib:

------------------
In the Name of Allah, the Inspirer of Truth.
Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

Jazak-Allah to all those who have taken part. Some have reported to us that Unilever have informed them that they are still producing the list, and will get back to us. Unfortunately however, they have not contacted us direct, and continue to ignore our requests.

Sadly, we have not had as robust a response, as we would have hoped from Muslim Consumers.

Unless, we have more Muslim Consumer Power taking place, unfortunately we can say goodbye to Unilever Wall's working with Foodguide, which means in turn that Muslim Consumers will not have access to a list authorised by the GMWA Foodguide. Until then, we can only assume, on the reasons for Unilever Wall's being so cagey.

Just received this reply from Walls:

Hello from Unilever

Dear Wall's Consumer,

Thank you for your recent email to Wall's.

In response to your query, Unilever will not be able to advise on religious
suitability as it is a very sensitive matter which may vary from person to
person.

Unilever do report to the UK food guide. However, at this current moment in
time we are updating our suitability lists to ensure that all the criteria
for specific diets are met and that they are accurate as possible.

In the mean time, if you would like us to send you information on specific
ingredients in our products, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Kind regards,

Selina Bakkar

From Mufti Abdullah Patel Sahib:
----------------------------------------------

The Muslim Consumer are requested to keep up their follow up Emails, and telephone calls to Unilever.
21 June 2009 -

Some Muslim Consumers who wrote to Unilever Wall's Ice Cream got the following reply on Friday 19th June, though by far, most have not been replied to. Most importantly, Foodguide have not contacted by Unilever Wall's at all, despite sending a fresh request last week.

Our responses in blue.

==========================================================

Dear Wall's Consumer,

Thank you for your recent email to Wall's.

In response to your query, Unilever will not be able to advise on religious
suitability as it is a very sensitive matter which may vary from person to
person.

[Our Response:
Our policy is quite clear, in that we do not want companies to declare which products are
Halaal and Haraam, rather, we want them to provide us with pertinent information, so that we can make a jurisprudential ruling.

We have not asked them for any rulings on Muslim Suitability from Unilever, nor has the customer, simply because they are not qualified to make this decsion.

Our free service to companies like Unilever Wall's, is designed to provide a list based on bona fide Islamic Jurisprudence.

We dont quite understand why they say they cannot advise on religious suitability, when they have not been asked for this.

A classic red herring.]

Unilever do report to the UK food guide. However, at this current moment in
time we are updating our suitability lists to ensure that all the criteria
for specific diets are met and that they are accurate as possible.

[Our Response:
The response from Unilever is clearly disingenious, in that they have still not had the
decency to acknowledge, respond in any form of communication whatsoever.

To say they report to Foodguide is simply not true. Also it is significant that they are "updating" their lists between the Summer months. This doesnt appear to be good business sense in the least, and certainly not Customer Services.]

In the meantime, if you would like us to send you information on specific ingredients in our products, please do not hestitate to contact us again.

[Our Response:
Yes, we would like you to send the information we have requested from you time and time
again.

Muslim Consumers are united in demanding that Unilever Wall's Ice Cream work with Foodguide.

We cannot endorse Unilever Wall's Ice Cream until then. A blue chip company like Unilever should be Consumer Orientated and work with Foodguide, to show they do really care for the Muslim Community ViewPoint. ]

Kind regards,

----------------

6 July 2009 - Al-humdulillah, Unilever Wall's Director contacted the Foodguide assuring us that they wanted to work with us. The list we requested has been received within a few hours of the communication.

We will publish the list as soon as we have processed it. Insha-Allah, this should be done within the next week.

All that remains to be said is Jazak-Allah to all those who responded and made the difference.

Muslim Consumer Power is not in vain.
