Pig leather is often much softer than leather from other animals but it is now being used in furniture production.

With the naked eye the leather may not be distinguishable from any other leather if a top coating has been applied but with a microscope the arrangement of the hair follicles is very distinctive and so can be recognised.

Dear All

I'm so glad I found this page. I have an urgent query:

I wanted to buy a leather wallet for my dad-in-law. I wrote to a leather goods merchant online and told him that I'm looking for a leather wallet in any leather EXCEPT pig skin. He sent me a link to his products and said that it is not made of pig, so I purchased it on his word.

But now that the wallet has arrived in the post, I can SEE the 3 pin-prick marks on it. I don't know if the leather merchant was lying or if I am not identifying the leather correctly.

Should I write to the merchant and tell him I'm disappointed? Or should I take his word (that is it nappa/goat leather) and gift it to my dad-in-law?

Please help. My heart is in the right place but I'm not an expert at leathers and I'm a Muslim.

Allah knows best, I spoke to a person who dealt with and sold leather goods and he told me that a particular leather was NOT Pig skin and really wanted me to buy this item. I had major doubts because all the images I have come across show this type of marking in one way or the other, also the images posted above are not from heresay, they are from actual leather manufacturers who have clearly marked them out as to the type they are.

Many years ago, I saw another local man from my local mosque whose business IS the leather trade and they are wll known in the locality. Even he told me that such conditions on the skin is Pig skin.

If you can send it back, that would be better for you, otherwise take it to Muslim Leather supplier and ask them of their opinion.

Allahu Alum...

How I've been lied to before and this time by Muslim men.

My son wanted a Milkshake blended with chocolate, so I ordered a Mars Milkshake (which is what what he wanted because there was no Oreo)

Anyways, my son has a good habit of offering everyone a little before he even gets a taste for himself, so as I was the only one with him, he offered it to me and I instantly said, "This aint Mars, this is Snickers" and the man at the counter was adamant that it was Mars. So I asked him to go and clarify if it was Mars or Snickers. When he came back, he was even more adamant that it was Mars.

My son tasted it and said that it wasn't Mars either.

I got angry at the sales man in a polite way and told him that if my son was not alergic to peanuts, I wouldn't bother to argue, but due to this reason, I cant take the chance. So he went to the back again and on his return he said, "Ok brother I'll give you another one for your sastisfaction".

I was even more annoyed because they lied and would not admit that it was Snickers. The guy in the shop was upset because he had just wasted an over priced milkshake and would have to answer to the manager.

In the end my son got his Mars milkshake and the guy from the back who made the milkshakes came out and said that I could have the snickers milkshake for free as it was the other guys mistake for giving the wrong order/ ingredients.

Can you imagine what would have happened if I took his word for it?

My sister  did some research on this, and was told by a shoe manufacturer that three dots which are in a triangle are not from pig skin. Three dots which are in a line are from pigs skin.

Jazakallahu khair, what would be interesting is to know where the other 3 dots are from.

I've heard plenty of differing opinions, best to be safe than sorry.

These are the links for the images I posted above. I recommend that you click on the images above or visit the site below, you will see that the dots appear differently as the leather gets treated differently.

The leather manufacturer has clearly stated that they are pig skin, close inspection shows that the dots can be in any formation....

I hope that helps.

The only fool here is the person who doesnt care if their wearing pig leather and wrote their name as "H******* S*******"

Their are many important things in life like, "Am I eating Halal? AND am I wearing HALAL?"

You have every right to not appreciate and not like a topic, but remember thats your opinion for your self. If you cannot add any thing beneficial then please press ALT F4 and be gone!!

This is an awesome topic which many people have benefitted from Alhamdulillah.

Its one of the few and first places where you can learn about PIG skin and how and why we should avoid it.

THE SHOES BUSINESS IS REALLY GETTING TO ME.

And now I got Jews thinking!

Nowadays, most of the shoes (ladies, for the wife) contain this lining and it is really bugging me. We were at a shoe shop where I saw a Jewish man trying some shoes on. as I was sitting next to him, I noticed that the insole had pig skin lining in it, so asked him if it was allowed in his religion and explained our position. (since the Jews are more strict on other aspects of kosher and non kosher).

He said he had never ever heard anything of the sort. He then told me that in their religion, they are not allowed to mix wool and linen. (strange, but thats their shariah).

He was baffled and almost bought the shoes. As I was leaving, he thanked me and said he will discuss it with their scholars.

Lets hope this makes a huge difference in the way leather is sold in this country since the Jews control the economy, they might just ban Pig leather and HFA ;)

We might even get shoes with the kosher label, excellent.

According to the Jews, they can since they manipulated their books the same way the salafee do.

Here is the Jewish salafee version. They take it literally and do what suits them best.

Quote:

In short, there is no prohibition against using or touching such items. Here's the longer version of the answer:

I am assuming that you are taking the prohibition against "touching" a pig - or any non-kosher animal for that matter - from

Leviticus 11:8, where it states: "You shall not eat of their flesh, and you shall not touch their carcasses; they are unclean for you." Understanding this verse in its most literal sense leads one to the conclusion that it is forbidden to touch any part of a non-kosher animal's carcass.
Rashi, the classic commentator to the Scriptures, foresaw this misunderstanding. He explains that this verse is referring only to the three pilgrimage festivals - Passover, Shavuot and Sukkot - when all Jews were required to maintain a state of ritual purity in order to be allowed entry into the Holy Temple and be present when their festive sacrifices were offered. During the rest of the year, there is no prohibition against coming in contact with animal carcasses.

I HAVE SOME BREAKING NEWS REGARDING MY POSTS IN THIS SECTION. I DID A LITTLE BIT MORE INVESTIGATING TO FIND THAT PIG SKIN AS WELL AS RUBBER IS USED IN CLOTHING PRODUCTS. IF THE PRODUCTS HAVE THE SIGNS OF BEING PIG SKIN, YOU THEN NEED TO DETERMINE WETHER OR NOT IT IS LEATHER. BECAUSE, RUBBER IS ALSO USED AND GIVEN THE SAME EFFECT AS A LEATHER LOOK. SO THE ITEM YOU ARE BUYING MAY JUST BE RUBBER. PLEASE DO YOUR OWN INVESTIGATIONS AND PLEASE "DO NOT TAKE MY WORD FOR IT". SEE THE TWO ATTACHED IMAGES WHICH CLEARLY SHOW RUBBER AND LEATHER BELOW AND ON THE NEXT PAGE

Real leather, synthetic materials and rubber.
