yes taqwa shouId, sorry must, be at the basis of aII deeni decisions. I dont think ive EVER mentioned to foIIow whats easier. 2 rakats or fuII 4 whatever is decided by madresah soIatia and not anyone eIse. If you read my comments a few posts back i cIeary say whatever madrasah soIatia ruIe shouId be adopted (regardIess if its 2 or fuII 4) not what uIama in other UK cities say.

its not a matter of ones heart deciding its a matter of foIIowing the ruIing thats most IikeIy is right. and in my opinion IocaI uIama have precedent on IocaI masIas's. otherwise i'm sure you'd agree (and everyone eIse) it wouIdnt be ideaI in one group of UK haji's in mecca that one foIIows mufti adam, one mufti sach, one moIIy biIaI, one moIIy saIeem, one Mufti farooq, one shaikh RiyaduI haq (may aIIah bIess them aII) and each one praying their own saIaats according to the ruIing of that particuIar aaIim. Massive fitna that'II create. Best thing is to aII foIIow the ruIing of madresah soIatia and pray whatever they say - 2 or 4.

I was not meaning to imply anything untoward just merely stating what I was told. With regards to fitna, I agree and hope that this matter is resolved.

By all means Inshallah..especially if members have personal experience themselves then it would be particularly beneficial to contribute any kind of resourse be it a book, bayaan etc

it will be my first time performing hajj this year, if Allah wills. (if my agent comes back successful - pls make dua, alot of the tour operaters are still there trying to get the papers signed. then rumour goes round saying; 'so are & so's is booked. whats wrong with my agent?? let me cancel and re-book with another agent!!' when infact, they are just tell tails. i feel sorry for the agents, its a real headache trying to get the papers signed every year in saudi. the hajj committee really mess them around. (sorry, just gettinoug it off my chest!!)

i think it will be brilliant if ppl post there experiences, more advice etc. is it true that in madinah you should perform 60 namazes in the mosque? (or something like that) it may not be true. this is why i want to do full research before going. i want to spend my time in the best way posible. also i want to do my hajj the right way and know what & why im doing it. not just follow the learned person that comes along with us in the group. he says do this and we do it.

daywalk3r, im ecstatic that you are sharing your views. it really has opened my mind alot more.

Adding to the excellent list above I would add the following:

+ Plug adaptor (3pin to 2pin) - Required in some hotels

+ Mobile Phone (Need to ensure that it is unlocked so that it works with local sim cards)

+ Most toiletries and medicines can be found easily in chemists in both Madina and Makkah

+ Also most western foods (like crisps etc) can be found in Bin Dawood (A Tesco style supermarket) - Makkah and Madina

+ A rucksack whilst in hajj - will be easier to carry round rather than a suitcase.

+ Ipod (or similar) with Hajj Bayaans loaded - can be good to listen to just prior to performing rites.

+ If travelling with children, then maybe some food since it can take a while at the Hajj terminal + A small Quran - very worthwhile

Please note however that most of the above items can be easily found in Makkah/Madina.

it would be ideal not to take them in the 1st place. unless you've been before & you wish to take your children with you.
