An old man lived on a farm in the mountains of eastern Kentucky with his young grandson.

Each morning Grandpa was up early sitting at the kitchen table reading his Quraan .

His grandson wanted to be just like him and tried to imitate him in every way he could.

One day the grandson asked, "Papa, I try to read the Quraan just likeyou but I don't understand it, and what I do understand I forget assoon as I close the book. What good does reading the Quraan do?" TheGrandfather quietly turned from putting coal in the stove and replied,"Take this coal basket down to the river and bring me back a basket ofwater."

The boy did as he was told, but all the water leaked out before he gotback to the house. The grandfather laughed and said, "You'll have tomove a little faster next time," and sent him back to the river withthe basket to try again. This time the boy ran faster, but again thebasket was empty before he returned home.

Out of breath, he told his grandfather that it was impossible to carrywater in a basket, and he went to get a bucket instead. The old mansaid, "I don't want a bucket of water; I want a basket of water. You'rejust not trying hard enough," and he went out the door to watch the boytry again. At this point, the boy knew it was impossible, but he wantedto show his grandfather that even if he ran as fast as he could, thewater would leak out before he got back to the house.

The boy again dipped the basket into river and ran hard, but when hereached his grandfather the basket was again empty. Out of breath, hesaid, "See Papa, it's useless!" So you think it is useless?" The oldman said, "Look at the basket." The boy looked at the basket and forthe first time realized that the basket was different. It had beentransformed from a dirty old coal basket and was now clean, inside andout. "Son, that's what happens when you read the Quraan. You might notunderstand or remember everything, but when you read it, you will bechanged,inside and out. That is the work of Allah in our lives."

BENEFITS OF RECITING THE HOLY QUR'AAN

Various advices of our Shaykh on the benefits of reciting the Holy Qur'aan:

"We as Muslims understand that the Qur'aan is the ultimate book and word of Allah ta'ala. It is through this book that Allah ta'ala elevates people.

On the Day of Qiyamah the Qur'aan will either testify in our favour or testify against us.

Even without understanding, when a person recites the words of Allah ta'ala from the Holy Qur'an, he receives ten rewards for each letter recited."

I have heard our respected Shaykh (may Allah continue increasing him in all faculties) say that "When a person is in love and receives a letter from his beloved he doesn't read it once, but continues reading it again and again. He will then keep the letter safely. If for instance he cannot read he will do what he can to find someone to read the letter for him....

Should we not then have at least the same attraction for our Lord's words (i.e. The Holy Quran)!

Yes, The Mercy of Allah Ta'la is so BROAD..., however without a piety heart not possible to understand; only understood if Allah Ta'la bestows Tawfiq (ability).
Tilawat-e-Quran is an Unparallel Amal. I request every Muslim to be Very caring towards it. Haven't you heard how it will protect us in graves? How will it plead for us on the Day of Judgment?
This story is a great lesson for the ones who 'apply' brains in wrong number.
Some people believe that without understanding meaning Reading Quran is worthless......; pity for them! Do they want to make Shariah harder for them and achieve more??? No way. Rasulullah Sallallahu alaiyhiwasallam has clearly informed: "for 'Alif'' - 10 Neki; for 'Lam' - 10 Neki; for 'Mim' - 10 Neki" Did Rasulullah say "you will achieve Nekis if only you understand the meaning"....? No, never. May Allah Ta'la provide all of us ability to read Quran and follow its conduct throughout our life.
