After a local civil action group called Awami, action, committee. Organised huge protests, demanding better governance and better investment in healthcare, education and infrastructure.
Internet has been shutdown for several weeks, the bazaars have been closed. Checkpoints on all roads, massacres of protestors being reported. People's access to food and groceries being limited.
Essentially some of the things that India does in occupied Kashmir, the Pak Government is doing in Azad Kashmir.
The JAAC movement is driven by a comprehensive 38-point Charter of Demands. These demands are categorised into two main areas: immediate economic relief and long-term structural changes.
The JAAC movement insists on the removal of 12 seats in the AJK Legislative Assembly that are currently reserved for Pakistan-based refugees from Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir.
Talks between the JAAC and the government broke down in late May over demands to abolish 12 seats in the region’s legislative assembly reserved for refugees from Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir who settled in Pakistan after 1947. According to JAAC, this is an outdated provision weaponised by political parties to influence the formation of the regional government. Following the failure to reach an agreement, JAAC announced it would go ahead with its plan to hold a region-wide strike on 9 June.
On 8 June 2026, clashes occurred between protesters and security forces in Rawalakot and other locations. Demonstrators erected roadblocks and organized strikes, while authorities deployed police and paramilitary personnel to maintain order.
According to international media reports, at least eleven people were killed and dozens injured during the unrest. The majority of fatalities occurred during confrontations in Rawalakot, Poonch District.
May Allah Ta'ala bring these miserable humans in Pakistan Army who have been oppressing innocent civilians since 1850s at the orders of their slave masters to Account to a swift reckoning (Ameen).
