Its over:

What we are witnessing now feels like a real breaking point between the United States and Europe (including Canada). This kind of public disrespect and condescension is not something that will simply be forgotten once Trump leaves office. The deeper problem is that this attitude did not start with Trump, it reflects a sentiment that exists among a significant segment of working-class America, a mindset that has been reinforced for decades through popular culture, especially Hollywood.

Many Americans genuinely believe that the United States single-handedly saved Europe and the UK in World War II, and that without American intervention, Europeans would all be speaking German today. In this narrative, Europe is portrayed not as an ally that fought, suffered, and bled from 1939 onward, but as a passive, incapable continent rescued at the last moment.

This belief feeds into something more troubling: a sense of ownership. There is a widespread assumption that because America played a decisive role in WWII and later funded European reconstruction, Europe somehow “owes” the United States indefinitely and particularly in politically, militarily, and even culturally. NATO, Marshall Aid, and Cold War security guarantees are framed not as mutual strategic decisions, but as favors that must be repaid through obedience.

Over time, this has hardened into resentment rather than partnership. Europe is seen as ungrateful, weak, freeloading, and morally inferior, protected by American power while criticizing American behavior. When this worldview meets political leadership that is openly transactional and contemptuous of allies, the result is open hostility rather than quiet frustration.

The damage from this goes beyond one administration. Once alliances are reduced to humiliation and historical caricatures, trust erodes in ways that are extremely difficult to repair. Even if leadership changes, the underlying perception, that America owns Europe because it once saved it, will remain a serious fault line in transatlantic relations.

Europe and Canada must stand up to US or be forever consigned to humiliation and servitude.

What exactly is the significance of Greenland to the US and Europe that they are willing to destroy their age-old alliance? Surely has to do with the elites of these countries. I don't see the ordinary people caring much for Greenland.

Greenland is perfectly positioned to keep an eye on Russia. Because it sits right in the path of anything heading toward North America, it serves as a massive natural platform for radars and missile defense. It’s essentially a high-tech lookout post that gives the West a critical heads-up if trouble starts brewing.

Underneath all that ice is a treasure trove of rare minerals. We’re talking about the specific materials needed to build computer chips, EV batteries, AI hardware, and advanced weaponry. Owning the rights to these minerals means owning a massive piece of the future economy.

As Arctic ice thins, new shipping routes are opening up that connect Asia and Europe much faster than traditional paths. Greenland sits right at the mouth of these lanes. It’s effectively becoming a toll booth or a "gate" for global trade, saving companies a fortune in time and fuel.

What
@CanadianPM

is saying here is the most profound and unprecedented statement any US ally has made since WWII

But it’s not a revelation.

In his
@Davos
speech Mark Carney does the unthinkable. He exposes the global rules-based order as a lie.

International law is a lie, applicable only to certain types victim. We’ve always known that, of course.

Repeated war crimes investigations and charges
@CIJ_ICJ
and
@IntlCrimCourt
against USA and Israel are meaningless and unenforceable.

But the “power of the powerless” doesn’t lie in the hands of complicit Western nations. They were never the powerless.

Canada, Britain and NATO readily aided pre-Trump US incursions and invasions throughout the world. #Iraq and #Afghanistan left over 1 million dead. Thousands killed by extrajudicial drone strikes in #Pakistan, Afghanistan, #Somalia, #Syria and beyond. Others renditioned to Syria, #Egypt and #Libya to turn up dead in their cells or completely disappeared.

#Guantanamo, where prisoners held for 24 years without trial, like Palestinian #AbuZubaydah can win repeated legal cases against #EU states and UK but no hope of release. This was all before Trump.

#Canada and #Europe, always first-in-line to support #Israel’s continuous US-backed apartheid, ethnic cleansing and genocide in #Palestine and #Gaza was from the outset.

But now, suddenly, the accomplices have found the power to break free.

It wasn’t morals or principles that woke you up though. Your bosom-buddy bully threatened to do to you what you all did to others.

The chickens have finally come home to roost.
