Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:
The portals of Jannah are under the shadow of swords. (Muslim)
Jihaad, according to Rasullullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is an institution which the Ummah has to incumbently uphold until Muslims remain on the surface of this earth. All mundane occupations are of secondary importance, since man has been despatched to earth to engage himself in preparation for his everlasting stay of perfect happiness in Jannah. All activities which are not designed or intended purely for the Deen and Allah's pleasure are of secondary and even of futile import. Said Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam:
"Verily, the world has been created for you while you have been created for the Aakhirah."
The Ummah has abandoned the original institution of Jihaad which is not a defensive war, as misguided modernist apologists are at pains to portray. True and original Jihaad is the offensive Jihaad undertaken for the express purpose of l'la Kalimatillah or the elevation of the Word (Islam) of Allah Azza wa Jall.
Sheathing the sword, Rasullullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, will bring about the subjection of the Ummah. This Ummah-e-Muslima cannot survive as an honourable nation without original Jihaad. Original Jihaad envisages the forcible subjection of the lands of the kuffaar to pave the way for the free and unfettered operation of Islam so that mankind may enter the fold of truth without satanic and kufr hindrance, thereby securing their everlasting Najaat (salvation) in the Hereafter.
All Jihaads hitherto waged in recent times, including the Afghani Jihaad, were defensive wars, not Jihaad of the first category. Nevertheless, even defensive wars against kuffaar for the safety of the honour of Muslims and for the defense of Muslim lands are also Jihaad of high merit for which the thawaab (reward) in the Aakhirah is tremendous.
The Swords of Jihaad have been sheathed because of roohani (spiritual) and akhlaaqi (moral) impoverishment and decadence. Victory in Jihaad is dependent on roohani and akhlaaqi elevation. Minus moral reformation, the Ummah cannot hope to wage original Jihaad nor expect success and victory in secondary Jihaad activity such as a defensive war to repel the kuffaar invaders. Bosnia, Palestine, Kashmir, Arakan, Algeria, Egypt etc. testify to this Islamic truth.
The solitary exception to the universal calamity of defeat and failure sustained by the Ummah is Afghanistan. It is only the Afghan Ummah which had dealt the resounding blow of disgraceful defeat on the Russian kuffaar. The fifteen-year long Afghan Jihaad glitters with glory, heroism, courage and victory. Since the jihaad was structured on the foundations of Islam with 'primitive' and 'fanatical' Ulama-e-Haqq leading it in its every dimension, Allah's Nusrat (Divine Aid) was at hand. This booklet recounts many of this Divine Aid.
Divine Aid is commensurate with spiritual elevation. The higher the degree of obedience to Allah Ta'ala, the greater and the quicker His Aid. If the Afghan nation's roohani condition was better, undoubtedly, they would have accomplished the task of routing the enemy in a shorter period of time.
The success of the Afghan Jihaad is directly attributed to Islam, not to any weapons which America channelled to the Mujaahideen via Pakistan. There is no dearth of heavy weapons, military hardware and wealth in the fifty odd Muslim countries. They all boast large and sophisticated armies, airforces and navies. But the only exercise which all these armed forces are capable of executing is to go on display on stupid anniversary days. They are disgracefully impotent to defend the honour of tens of thousands of Muslim sisters who are horrendously brutalized and raped by some species of creation which are sub-animal, like the Serbs of Yugoslavia and the idolaters of India. These Muslim armed forces lack in entirety in Islam, hence their miserable impotence and cowardice.
On the other hand, the primitive Afghans, with their turbans and beards, without military
sophistication, lacking in wealth and arms, brought to destruction, disgrace and defeat the armed might of the Soviet super-power. They had no army, not a single plane and no technology. But the power of Imaan has transformed Afghanistan into a veritable graveyard and scrapyard for Soviet military hardware. The country-side and airfields are littered with wrecks of Russian heavy weapons and aircraft. This is nothing but the Nusrat (Aid) of Allah Ta'ala.
The Afghan nation enjoy three outstanding features which distinguishes it from the rest of the Ummah. The first: The overwhelming majority performs the five daily Salaah. The second: The overwhelming majority has beards. The third: The overwhelming majority of females observe rigid hijaab. While small and scattered groups among the various nations of the Ummah adhere to Islam, the Afghan people on a universal scale look like Muslims, not like kuffaar as the overwhelming majority of the Ummah elsewhere. Thus, Allah's Aid was so forthcoming.
"And, if Allah aids you, then there is none to vanquish you. And, if He withholds His aid from you, who then is there to aid you besides Him?"
