There is a slight error in this video, although technically doesn't matter much but it isn't perfect. The first one to spot the error gets $20.

If you don't want the money, I will donate $20 to a program of your choice with Ummah Welfare Trust, lets see who spots the issue

The right qibla was 111 degrees, not 106 degrees. Is that the error?

Not really because a few degrees don't make a difference but you have looked too deeply, the mistake is pretty obvious when you look at it.

A few degrees out in this example is fine, but if it was a few degrees out in another example, it could matter.

So for example, if the Ulama say that an error of 45 degrees it's forgivable but the error was in fact 50 degrees, then it would be an issue if the Ulama said so.

I also noticed this small error but ignored it as it was for educational purposes and it answered the question. However, I didn't look out for errors as this is a topic we covered well and know more or less what we would be talking about.

I'm going to assume the error was in the old calculation method as this is one that I would probably never use.

Let me understand this; Earlier, how the wrong qibla direction was calculated;

76 deg is in North East Quadrant. A simple knowledge of geography will know it is totally wrong.

Instead of 106deg, if it is 96 deg or 116 deg, it is understandable because both are in South East Quadrant.

The opinion you are describing is "an opinion" of Mufti Shafi Usmani (RA) in Jawahirul-Fiqh, it isn't the agreed upon opinion of "Ulama (as in plural)" and it is more like 45 degrees instead of 50 in geometry terms.

The Ulama disagree on this matter within the Hanafi Madhab and outside of the Hanafi Madhab, its a different ballgame.

But that's not the issue in the video.

The direction was never meant to be absolute and precise as the Sahabah (RA) never had the way to do it so precisely and exactly.

You guys are working too hard, the error is a lot more obvious

As brother Saad mentioned above, aren't we supposed to read off a protractor counter clockwise? It looks like you're reading off clockwise.

Also, is there such a thing as a negative longitude?

Also there are a few typos in the subtitles. You misspelled roof (rof) and 106.135 was written incorrectly as 106'135.

You said the wrong qibla is 76 degrees and the subtitles say 74 degrees.

BTW, this is an excellent way to get your work proofed by volunteers.

None of these are errors per say. In order to figure out the differences of angles, the brother who has commented has given a good and easy suggestion as well.

The error still remains to be figured :)

$20 is still in the bag to be given away.

True, Is it 75 deg from South towards East. That becomes 90+15=105, So that is a small error.

Is there a communication error here from the masjid musallees.

The difference in the actual Qiblah and "hypothetical" wrong Qiblah is 32 degrees (roughly), you can count the angles from the left or right or as per the comment in the YouTube video and the difference is still 32 degrees.

It is how to take the difference between two angles which can be done in many different ways.

Its 32 degrees which is the critical figure and not direction which you are facing as Abu Mohammed has explained.

You guys haven't caught the "mistake" in the video :P

Hmm...not an error still

Hint: Take a look at the screen on when Qiblah is being checked with Google
