Maulana Murtaza Hasan Chandpuri RA traveled to Bareilly to meet Imam Ahmad Raza RA and asked him why he wrote against the ulama of Deoband. He said he only wrote against them because it helped him earn a living and he promised not to write against them further.
When Maulana Chandpuri RA was about to depart Bareilly he came across a poster that said Maulana Chandpuri had lost a debate to Imam Ahmad Raza and returned to the fold of Sunni Islam. Maulana Chandpuri RA went back to see Imam Ahmad Raza RA, who said he had nothing to do with the poster.
Maulana Chandpuri RA assembled the people of Bareilly and announced that he would prove the kufr of Imam Ahmad Raza RA using Qaida Baghdadi. He asked a child to open up the Arabic primer and made him read out the alphabets alif ha meem daal ra zaad alif kaaf alif fa ra. He asked the child to join these together. The child replied "Ahmad Raza Kafir." Maulana Chandpuri RA explained to the people that this is how books of the akabir are used by Imam Ahmad Raza RA to pronounce fatwa of kufr on the ulama of Deoband.
This is pretty much the situation everywhere and in every time period. People tend to root for the "underdog" whom they perceive as the one whose taking on the "big dogs" or the "Man".
New generation of Barelwee Scholars in the West get educated in Syria and Jordan so they are fluent in Arabic and versed in Hanafi Fiqh to some degree.
Our Ulama are graduates of the same system and usually package the same books which our Akabir wrote close to 100 years ago which were original. If people don't believe me watch this "debate" with the top most Deobandi Refutation expert in Britain
"Objectively" watch and waste 1 1/2 hours of the debate and response and then decide for yourself.
Our Akabir were mountains of knowledge and regarded themselves as low as the ground (in pride), reverse these two traits and you get the new generation of present day most of Deobandi graduates (not all). The ones who have knowledge also know that we don't live in 1919 (India) any more.
Nevertheless, thousands of hits on YouTube videos which don't convince anyone but those who are already Deobandi and make them "feel good" about themselves.
The fact that Maulana Usman HA challenged brother Asrar to the debate was enough to let me know how it would turn out, and when Maulana spoke his first few words, I could see a disaster in the making. Maulana looked completely out of his league. This reflects poorly on Maulana's teachers at DU.
