I do not hold the position that "Non-Muslims" or Alawee-Shias can be declared Shaheed so this is my response. Please limit yourself to what I am writing and feel free to disagree.

Benazir Bhutto's mother was a Shia of Iranian origin and her father, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, followed the Sunni school of thought.In her autobiography, Benazir Bhutto stated that, although the rest of the Bhutto family was Sunni, her mother, Begum Nusrat, was a Shia Muslim of Iranian origin . The autobiography further states that it was her mother who taught her the "rituals of prayer," although it does not specify whether Bhutto considers herself to be a Shia or a Sunni.It is not known of Begun Nusrat bhutto was Ismaili shia or Athnae Ashri shia. Benazir most probably did not care about those issues.

Back when I was young and Benazir wasn't a politician, we drove in front of 70 Clifton many times and I saw "Panjtan Pak" and the black flag on the terrace many times with many own eyes in Muharram and outside of it, you can use Google Street view and see what is there today.

My once upon a time best friend "Anil" is from the same area as Zardari but obviously he never discussed about Shia/Sunni stuff as he didn't know about Islam.

In fact Benazir was on record stating that she was "Sunni" but then page 57 on her book which is the only mention of religion at least tells us about the beginnings from her mother as a Shia

No one can know what he really believes, but I'd like to think this is what he thinks of the issue privately. Whether or not he should have said it in public, depends on whether or not you believe that Muslims should be spending their time appeasing the kuffar.

You can see the typical tactics of the baatil over this. They are creating so much noise and shaming the Muslims so much, that the Muslims are forced to adopt a defensive stance and try to appease the kuffar with excuses that this was not what they meant, etc. It sickens me to be honest.

For once I'd like a Muslim ruler to just come out and say, yes I said that, and yes I believe it, do whatever the hell you want to do.
