Not to sound like im defending Saudi but why didn't they announce eid for tomorrow. I understand moonset was before sunset in saudi which makes it impossible but impossible sighting doesn't deter them usually. Exactly what is their criteria. Moon was born before maghrib for Saudis n turks so surprised they didn't fake a sighting. I assumed their principle was if moons before sunset they will announce and claim they seen it even if moon is 1min old

The Crescent Council of Canada has received confirmation of multiple sightings in Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Gambia and Tanzania on Ramaḍān 29, 1441 (May 22, 2020). Sighting in the region was also scientifically possible through optical aid. Our local scholars, Shaykh Saeed Rageah and Imam Hasan Usman have verified the sighting reports with authorities and scholars in the region, including the grand Mufti of Somalia, Mufti Muhammad Omar Direr. Based on this verified information, the Crescent Council of Canada declares ‘Eīd Al-Fiṭr (Shawwāl 1st,1441) for tomorrow, Saturday May 23, 2020.

We understand that some organizations were not able to verify the sightings; or give preference to astronomy (hisab) over testimony (shahadah); and or follow local sighting, thus will be celebrating ‘Eīd on either Sunday or Monday. Regardless of when one chooses to celebrate ‘Eīd, we must respect and love each other.

May the Almighty accept our fasting, worship and charity.

Countries who started this mess must ponder upon this, they started it and others have stretched it.

I think one of the cities in these countries moonset is late by a minute after sunset. They followed the saudi criteria.
