بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـنِ الرَّحِيم

Bibliography of Hazrat Allama Khalid Mahmood D. B

Hadhrat was born in Syalkot, Pakistan. He began his education in Gujrawala (or Gujarkhan, can’t remember) before travelling to Dar ul Uloom Deoband and finally to Dhabel where he graduated as an Alim having studied under Ulema of the calibre of Allamah Sulayman Nadwi, Moulana Khayr Muhammad Jaalandhari, Mufti Muhammad Shafi and Allamah Idrees Khandelwi (may Allah have mercy on them all) during his travels. He then taught at Murray College, Syalkot as a Professor before joining Tanzeem Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama’at and also wrote for its magazine, “Da’wat”. In 1966, Hadhrat came to the U.K. and established the Manchester Academy, where great personalities such as Moulana Yusuf Motala Sahib (daamat barakaatuhum) worked along side him (before establishing Dar ul Uloom Bury) and Shaykh Asif Husain Farooqi Sahib (daamat barakaatuhum) would also sit in his talks. He also completed a Phd in Historical Transmission in London.

He is currently a senior member of the Sharia Appellate Bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and a World famous munazir and debator. Hadhrat has debated with the biggest personalities of many deviant sects and astonishingly participated in his first debate at the age of just 12 with a Qadiani senior old enough to be his great grandfather. He has also debated with the official Mujtahids of the Shia sect and put them to shame in their own backyard in Lukhnow and also debated with the senior students Moulana Nazeer Husain, one of the greatest elders of the Ahle Hadith sect. This is in addition to his famous victory over the senior most Barelwi Schalors of the UK in 1979 in Sheffield, where Hadhrat single handedly raised the flag of Ahlus Sunnah and overcame his opposition with devastating ease.

Hadhrat is famed for his unique insight, razor sharp mind and peercing intellect. But not many know that Allah has also endowed him with a photographic memory and as such, he never took any notes during his entire time in Dar ul Uloom. Even now, as Hadhrat himslef related once, as soon as something enters his ears, he never forgets it. Hadhrat has authored over 100 books including an 8 volume masterpiece on Barelwism entitled Mutala-e-Barelwiat, Athar ut Tanzeel (on the topic of the sceince of Tafsir), Athar ul Hadith (on the topic of the sceince of Hadith), Athar ut Tashree (on the topic of the sceince of Fiqh), Athar ul Ihsan (on the topic of the sceince of Tasawwuf), Khulafa e Rashideen (on the topic of the continuation of Islam after the passing of Sayyiduna Rasulullah, Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him), Abqaat (similar to Bawaadir un Nawaadir of Hakeem ul Ummat, rahmatullahialayh) and many others. He also has Ijazah in the Qadri Silsilah and descends from a long line of Shaykhs.

Hadhrat was over 90 years of age and we pray allah subhanahu wata allah grant him the highest ranks in jannat.

Athaarul-Hadeeth which is a two (2) volume detailed history of the science of Hadeeth by Allamah Khalid Mahmood Saheb (DB).

Hadhrats other books in the Athar series are just as comprehensive and insightful . With regards to Athar ut Tanzeel, Hadhrat Moulana Qari Muhammad Tayyib Sahib (rahmatullahialayh) writes in response to the question, “How is the book Athar ut Tanzeel, written by Moulana Khalid Mahmood Sahib?”

“The first answer to this question is that it is written by Moulana Khalid Mahmood Sahib who in the line of authorship and writing is famous and in the academic world is a well known author. On the usool of qadr as shahaadah qadr as shuhood, the appreciation and status of the author’s knowledge is an open sign of the appreciation and status of his writing…For the Ulema e kiram and students, as well as for the educated university folk, the study of this book will be very beneficial.”

ʿAllāma Khalid Mahmood Ṣāḥib رحمة الله عليه was born in Syalkot, Pakistan. He then travelled for education to Dār al-ʿUlūm Deoband and later Dhabel where he graduated, having met or studied under the likes of:

• ʿAllāma Sulaymān Nadwī
• Mawlānā Khayr Muḥammad Jalandharī
• Mawlānā Shams al-Ḥaq Afghānī
• Qāriʾ Ṭayyib Qasmī
• Mawlānā Aḥmad ʿAlī Lāhorī
• Mawlānā Manẓūr Nuʿmānī
• Muftī Muḥammad Shafīʿ ʿUthmāni
• ʿAllāma Idrīs Khandelwī
• Mawlānā Masīḥullāh Khan
• Shaykh al-Ḥadīth Zakariyya Khandelwī

After graduation he served as professor at Murray College, Sialkot (notable alumnus of which was Iqbal the Poet) and MAO College Lahore, before travelling to the UK in 1966. There he completed a PhD in Comparitive Religion from the University of Birmingham, while also establishing the Islamic Academy of Manchester, working alongside the late Shaykh Yūsuf Motālā رحمه الله prior to the inauguration of the _dār al-ʿulūm_ at Bury.

ʿAllāma Khalid Mahmood Ṣāḥib served for some time as a senior member of the Sharia Appellate Bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He was a recognised expert in different sects, including Shia sects and the Qadiyani religion. Famed for razor sharp mind, unique insight, piercing intellect, mastery of language (five or six) and impressive memory, he was a renowned _munāẓir_ (debater), successfully refuting and overcoming challengers from the senior ranks of many different sects with ease, both in the Asian Subcontinent as well as the UK.

Yet more than this, ʿAllāma Khalid Mahmood Ṣāḥib was recognised as a formidable intellectual and prolific author of academic works in the Urdu language, some of which include:

• _Āthar_ series – detailed, multivolume histories of different sciences, including: _Āthār al-Tanzīl_ (history of the Qurʾān and its exegesis), _Āthār al-Ḥadīth_ (history and development of the science of _ḥadīth_), _Āthār al-Tashrīʿ_ (history of _fiqh_) and _Āthār al-Iḥsān_ (history of _taṣawwuf_)
• _Mutala-e-Barelwiat_ – an 8 volume masterpiece

Well respected as a most humble, down-to-earth and approachable intellectual, he was favoured with a long life extending well into his nineties, before returning to the mercy of his Creator on the 20th of Ramaḍān 1441. Amongst the legacy he leaves behind is his special student (and now senior American _ʿālim_) Shaykh Mohammed Amin Kholwadia of Chicago, with regards to whom he stated publicly: “I have written a book of knowledge. If you would like to read it, it is Mawlānā Amin.”

May Allah ﷻ receive ʿAllāma Khalid Mahmood رحمة الله عليه with His special pleasure and reward him with the highest ranks in the hereafter.

It is with great sadness that we inform others of the sad news of the passing away of Hadhrat Aqdas Allamah Shaykh Dr Khalid Mahmood r.a.
(Manchester, UK). Allamah Khalid Mahmood was Shaykh Amin’s mentor.

انا لله وإنا إليه راجعون اللهم اغفرله وارحمه وأجعل قبره روضة من رياض الجنة واعلى مقامه في جنات الفردوس

Hadhrat r.a. being taken back to Allah in the blessed month is a sure sign of his Quboolyiah and acceptance in the sight of Allah سبحانه وتعالى.

He was a Giant amongst the Scholars of Islam in this era and a true example of the pious predecessors. He was a link to the early Akabir and Saintly elders of Islam.

Allah had gifted him with much, his Taqwah, his adherence to the Sunnah, he had a photographic memory and his Faqahat was acknowledged by Ulema all over the world. The quality that stands out most was his steadfastness and istiqamah.

His efforts against the deviant sects especially the Qadiyani and his defence of Khatam Nabuwwah was unparalleled. In spite of old age and illness he would travel abroad to address large audiences and defend the Finality of the Prophethood of Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم.

Hadhrat was also a Sufi and was a Khalifa of Hadhrat Qari Muhammad Tayyab sahib r.a, Hadhrat Mufti Muhammad Shafi r.a. Hadhrat Mawlana Maseehullah Khan r.a. after which he gave bay’ah to Hadhrat Mawlana Hakeem Akhtar sahib r.a. then finally he again gave bay’ah after the passing of Shah Hakeem Akhtar r.a to Hadhrat Mawlana Qamruzaman illahabadi db who also granted him Ijazah in khilafat (In Tasawwuf).

This shows how inspite of his rank he always kept someone above him as his Shaykh and shows how much importance he gave to Tasawwuf and the science of Spirituality.

May Allah elevate his rank and grant us the ability to benefit from the knowledge that he has left behind.
