assalamu alaykum, you can follow afghan people (back home or diaspora) on twitter and they post first hand info and vids from their regions. i follow some diaspora in the west, just random afghan youth that post info about back home once in awhile.

it's eye-opening for me. i learned that the people of afghanistan are very disunited, along religious, class, and ethnic lines.

The Taliban now control roughly a third of all 421 districts and district centers in Afghanistan.

On Monday, Tajikistan’s national security committee said 1,037 Afghan government troops had fled into the ex-Soviet country “in order to save their lives” after clashes with the Taliban during the night.

Afghanistan government forces are planning a counteroffensive in the country’s northern provinces after losing ground to the Taliban, Russia’s RIA news agency has cited an adviser to Afghan President Ashraf Ghani as saying.

Taliban would no longer allow China’s Uyghur separatist fighters from Xinjiang to enter Afghanistan

Beijing: The Taliban has said it sees China as a “friend” of Afghanistan and assured Beijing that it would not host Uyghur Islamic militants from the volatile Xinjiang province, which is a major worry for the Chinese government, according to a media report.

Playing down China’s concerns, the Taliban spokesman Suhail Shaheen said they see China as a friend to Afghanistan and is hoping to talk to Beijing about investing in reconstruction work as soon as possible .

Suhail also said the Taliban would no longer allow China’s Uyghur separatist fighters from Xinjiang, some of whom had previously sought refuge in Afghanistan, to enter the country.

The Taliban would also prevent Al-Qaeda or any other terrorist group from operating there, he said.

السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته

I have been to Afghanistan a couple of times for business purpose.

It was my first trip to a Muslim country after many years and I was really looking forward to seeing deen among the masses.

But it was surprising to see that majority of the people were not coming to the mosque to pray even though the adhan was happening right next to them. There were more people at Fajr and Dhuhr at the non Muslim country I was living in than there was in the mosques there (in Kabul at least).

I felt a lot of grief from this and realized that we all need deeper connection to deen to be able to practice it on a daily basis, even as fundamental as prayers in the Mosque.

We look for open karaamaat, when reality is usually much more sober, and sobering. The difference between piety and heedlessness is usually only in intention (niyyah) and this is something Allah Taala has hidden from us.

Multiple security and diplomatic sources in DC and Kabul tell CBS News the Embassy in Kabul is preparing to evacuate all but a handful of key staff in the next 36 hours.

(This is all very fluid and changing by the hour).

Those who remain, will be diplomatic security, top decision-makers - including the ambassador -- and security engineers who will start destroying hard-drives, taking down cameras, stripping the embassy of alarms, etc.

The burn and destroy order has been in effect for days... and they have been hard at work doing just that.

The rest of the embassy staff, as well as SIV's, local employees and their families will be shuttled to the Karzai international airport, where they will setup a fallback embassy to keep processing visas/evacuations and prepare to leave.

They will not immediately take down the flag at the embassy... they will try not to do that for as long as possible with the bare bones staff. The plan as of this moment, is for the Ambassador to stay at least 36 hours... they will take it day by day.
