I’m not sure if racism is the right word here, but whatever it’s called has always existed. I’m from a very mixed background so never really fit into any specific category but was always bemused when asked which village or district in India I was from. Sadly I found racism worst within the Muslim community than the non Muslim. It’s not enough to be just a practising Muslim, you will be labelled as Sufi, tabliqi, hanafi, brelwi, etc etc the list is endless. Depending on whatever category you fall under that’s how your treated.

Allah سبحانه وتعالى says
Show mercy to mankind

Not show mercy to just Muslims.

If your white it’s a problem, if your black it’s a problem, not being the right type of culture or Muslim is a problem. The beauty of our deen is that we can communicate directly to our creator we don’t need a go between like in Hinduism. Being acceptable in the eyes of people is irrelevant what matters is our relationship with Allah.

In reality no one is superior to another in gender, race, status, culture etc. We are all equal in the eyes of Allah.

Freeing yourself from being a part of anything specific gives you the freedom to make choices where otherwise you would be restricted. Alhamdulillah

Using labels for racism purposes is one thing and using labels for declaring association with certain sets of beliefs is another thing.

If labels are that bad then why use the label Hanafi? Why not just use simple "Muslim". And I would go one step further "What's the need of using even that label"? Why not just use simple "Human"? (Pardon me for saying that and I hope members here will understand my point without issuing fatwa against me) This is a very important question.

Deoband is indeed a geographical location,the Madrsa of deoband does not exist in ‘Lahoot-La makan’ but on this planet earth in a city/village called deoband. It’s Ideology resides in the minds of those scholars who tend to agree with that school of thought.

The school of thought existed even before deoband Madrassah.All the good people had the same aqeeda even before it was named Deobandi school of thought. It comprised of Tauheed e khalis,ittiba e Sunna,taqleed,tasawwuf and purity of aqeeda.In the context of subcontinent they followed Hanafi Fiqha and defended it but considered all the four Fiqhi schools correct.Most probably it turned into a ‘group like structure’ when challenged by others regarding some of their aqaed,hence the existence of ‘Barelvi’ made them ‘Deobandi’ just like the existence of ‘night’ differentiates ‘day’...

Otherwise it is the same good old Ahle sunnat wal jamaat,nothing new...
