It is ok to do research when you don't know who are the truth telling ones. It is ok to taste every dish at that time. That is the time of exploration and keen observation. That is the time of doubt. That is the time of merciless scrutiny. However, after you come to a conclusion that this group is on haq then you stick to just one school of thought. Now, the next phase is that is this group steadfast on haq based upon the teachings of the previous generations and elders of this group till the silsila reaches to Prophet Muhammad SAWS. However, you don't look here and there and start re investigating things. But you progress further and stick to one school of thought.

This is why I disagree to those who say that "The world is not a box" We have no other choice but to limit ourselves to a box (the correct one) if we want to preserve our iman and keep safe from fitnah. Deen is not something which can be tested in a laboratory.

These are times of fitnah and we must decide wisely, whom we are going to follow.

If one extreme is Hazrat worship then the other extreme is Aqal worship and Over rationalism + DIY. Blind talqeed is wrong but senseful taqleed is correct. This deen is not orphan and ulema e haq will always be there.

Imām al-Barbahārī (V died 329 AH) stated: “Know that Allah’s Messenger (H) said: “My ummah will divide into 73 sects, all of them will be in the Fire except for one, and that is the Jamā’ah.” It was said, “And who are they, O Allah’s Messenger?” He responded, “That which I and my Companions are upon today.” [1]

What's the criteria to judge?

So this is the criteria to judge. Study the lives of Rasoolullah SAWS and Sahaba RA thoroughly through Seerah books and authentic historic sources. I am not talking about the fiqh part. I am talking the seerah part in general sense.

Then compare that knowledge with current times. Who are the ones who fit the picture most. Remember that you are not going to find angels or sahabas ra in this age. However, you will find individuals who have a nisbat with Prophet Muhammad SAWS and Sahaba RA. By nisbat here, I mean a certain kind of similarity.

So here is my observation.

Sahaba RA defeated two super powers of their time with minimum resources. Who repeated that today?

Sahaba RA used to gather knowledge of quran and Sunnah in Suffa near masjid e Nabvi. Madaris of which school of thought today are educating about Shariah and Tareeqah in a complete sense?

Sahaba RA gave their lives while confronting Musailma Kazzab and other false prophets.
Who are giving their lives as a whole and who have sacrificed the most intellectually as well as physically for khatam e nabuwat and with correct aqaid? Who was Haq Nawaz Jhangvi Rh? Who was Sher Ali Hadieri Rh? Who was Azam Tariq Rh?

Khulafa e Rashideen displayed a great example of ruler ship according to the teachings of Quran and Sunnah. Followers of which school of thought displayed a glimpse of that example in this age?

Abu Huraira RA was a great Sahabi RA and Shaykh ul Hadith. People of which school of thought today are the most knowledgeable and proficient in hadith? Who was Anwar Shah Kashmiri RH? Who was Muhammad Musa Roohani Bazi Rh? Who is Zar Wali Khan and Taqi Uthmani?

Abbas RA was a great Sahabi RA and Mufassir. Who are the best mufassireen today? Who was Shafi Uthmani Rh?

My heart speaks loudly, that even if there are munafiqeen and black sheep like Abdullah ibn Ubai and others, still there are many hidden and not so hidden gems in this school of thought.

In previous generations of ulema, there was a special kind of ilm which was learned. That ilm was about the science of judging character and even profession of a person after studying one's facial expressions. Imam Malik Rh studied the face of Shafi RH for one hour even before he became Imam Shafi RH. After studying his face, he told him that you are going to be a very influential person so fear Allah.

Here I agree 10,000% with Peer Sahab, my inner voice is telling me by the looks of this person that he may lead others to greater fitnah if he doesn't do tawbah before death.

Are there any group of Muslims across the world who consider any other group apart from them to be on haqq?
Do deobandis consider anyone else to be on haqq apart from themselves from Malaysia to Morocco?

The non polluted consistent interpretation of Quran and Sunnah of Hanafi, Shafi, Mailki and Hanbali madhahib which results in correct and agreed upon aqeedah and reasonable disagreement on fiqhi matters (within the limits and guidelines of shariah). This is the way of haq.

It all starts with disrespecting Uluma and mujtahideen رحمهم الله,then it extends to Sahaba رضى الله عنهم and then to the prophets عليهم صلوات والسلام

The underlying 'disease' is one :"No one else could understand din properly except ME,so listen to ME"..."All the scholars are fighting each other and calling names,so let ME fight them all"...."Others are inviting you to follow Imam Abu Hanifa and Shafi رحمهم الله I am the only one calling towards following the prophet pbuh,so follow ME"....

This manifestation of ME reflects in many ways...

We commoners have to trust the interpretation of someone,why then an Engineer turned Molvi ? Why not Imam Abu Hanifa RA ? It sounds better to be Muqallid of an established scholar rather than an unknown Engineer.

I wasn't there during Mirza's time but I'd imagine his "popularity" probably started off in a pretty much similar fashion. A few speeches about beliefs that matched those of the respected ulema. Which would then have transitioned into slight criticisms of ulema. And in no time people were responding to him. Which would have egged him on even more. People like those who do not conform to the society's standards, those who rebel and Mirza would have represented that. But until he started spewing garbage about the finality of prophethood, people would have still viewed him as a Muslim. Perhaps even one who was charismatic. At least more than the old-fashioned ulema. By the time his aqaid came forward people were too deeply entrenched into his philosophy to see what was wrong.

So the answer to whether Engineer is better than Barelvis or Salafis is that with the latter two at least we can associate them with the tag "not one of us" but with the former he seems a "part of us" by all accounts. Especially for the uninitiated which is the majority of the population. With him there is a greater chance of fitna because people regard him as normal and logical and "just a bit critical but essentially accurate with his dalail". If in the future this guy comes up with a deviant philosophy of his own, those who are cut off from ulema and consider him as Allah's gift to mankind, will have no problem following him to their doom. With the Barelvis and Salafis at least people are aware enough to not fall for whatever they say. With Engineer people don't have their shields up. They are more vulnerable.

I've only listened to a few talks of Engineer and I'm not influenced by him in any way, shape or form. He is an ill mannered and discourteous guy who speaks against Ulama because of which I don't like him. But the point I was trying to make is he always come up with *solid arguments* and he should be dealt with throughly by someone. Usually our Ulama and Imams in Masjid scare off young people when they ask a question which they can't answer and then they start following people like him who present their arguments in the best manner.
