The name of Qari Abdul Basit is known world wide. So much so that you can go to many places in the world and ask them to name a famous Qari. The only name people will know of is that of Qari Abdul Basit.

However the other two great Egyptian Qaris of that era Shaykh Mahmoud Khalil al Hussary, and Qari Mohammed Siddiq Al Minshawi . Although not having the same level of global fame as Qari Abdul Basit were equally wonderful recitors in their own right.

Am I the only one hearing an echo effect in his recitation? Also, is this what the majzoob in sufi literature looked like? We had someone similar in our area, who lived almost 70 years ago. He was a destitute too, but sufi (read Barelvi) Muslims consider him to be the crown of saints (tajul awliya).

I dont know if the brother in the video could be categorised as Majzoob.

Indonesia has a strong tradition of Qiraat and Hifz. Unfortunately we get to hear very little from that part of the world
Living in the west.
