If you work in any sort of medical, scientific, technical or educational field there is a very simple concept to understand.

  1. When you study a book, you assume that it is a point in time (reflection). A book written in 1863 cannot reflect the scientific advances of 2018

  2. When you hear a speech, you assume that it is a point in time (reflection). Charles Darwin DOES NOT and CANNOT reflect the gains of modern Genetics.

People get old, people lose their memory, people make mistakes, facts change etc etc etc

This is reflected in the science of Hadeeth and narrators who were perfectly graded as “Sudooq (truthful)” in earlier years are downgraded later (down the years) and we are warned to stay away from their narrations depending on what point in time they have narrated the Hadeeth.

The school of Imam Shafa’e (RA) has an old school and a new school and distinction is made, point in time.

However, when it comes to Sufees everything is PERMANENT.

  • Khilafa given is FOREVER
  • Parise by certain scholars is FOREVER
  • Words/Malfoozat are FOREVER
  • IF a person is deemed to be upon Hidayah, it is FOREVER
  • And most importantly, mistakes are FOREVER

The last point is critically important. Humans make mistakes, they learn new things and change opinions. If you fall on the wrong side of Sufees you stay there FOREVER because there is no redemption for you. You were misguided once so you stay there.

Similarly, you were close to the Shaykh once and you can become an open Mulhid but your faults and errors will be hidden, explained and excuses made for you no matter what you do.

Dire Consequences!

Lack of understanding of this dire consequences for example. Shaykh Hussain Sattar (HA) is 100% not associated with Peer Zulfiqar but he will NEVER issue categorical statement so Peer Zulfiqar people will continue to peddle old statements, talks, speeches etc as proof that he is still connected.

Shaykh Hussain Sattar (HA) is not the kind of person who makes a fuss so he will mind his own business and not rock the boat which will enable Peer Zulfiqar people to ratchet up any propaganda as they know it will never be challenged.

Apply this to any Khaleefa situation and you will get the picture.

  1. Maulana X is still a Khaleefa
  2. Maulana X is not a Khaleefa

You have people arguing mindlessly on both sides and nobody can prove anything

VERSUS!

Islam comamnds us to be straightforward and speak plainly.

A Mufti in Karachi many years broke away from Peer Zulfiqar Saheb and became Bay't to Mufti Taqi Usmani (HA) and he made a simple statement on his site, no details, no mud-slinging, just a simple factual statement that he is now connected to Mufti Taqi Usmani (HA) and no longer to Peer Zulfiqar

I fully agree with the concept you have highlighted and it's an important one to understand.

However, as this thread is separate to the Peer zulfiqar one, let's not limit this just to sufees. This problem is not only a sufi problem (not sure what you meant by the "Deobandi missing link" in the title).

The fact is, this problem is widespread amongst all the various Muslim groups.

It is apparent amongst tableeghis (and I strongly support the extremely beneficial work of tableegh, considering it to be one of, if not the best movements amongst Muslims of the last 100 years).

It is even more apparent amongst western/modern scholars. In fact I would say it's ten times worse amongst western scholars.

Atleast with the sufees like Peer Zulfiqar, the followers know and acknowledge the action is wrong so they reject it or cover it up.

Contrast this to the western scholars like Shaykh Hamza Yusuf or Shaykh Abdul Hakim Murad. Their followers are twisting and changing Islam to justify these scholars. They're not even trying to reject or cover the transgressions of these scholars up. Based on various pretexts they are just changing Islam and the islamic ethos itself to justify them. They fail to understand that, yes, at some point in time in the past these western scholars did good. Now, when they are openly transgressing limits, their fans still try to justify them. And that is even without bayah being given to them.

So this is not just a sufee issue, it's a bigger issue in other quarters.
