In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh

In our times we have the Mashaykh (Scholars, Spiritual Mentors), these are the people who exert themselves physically and spiritually to please their Lord (Almighty). We learn Islam from their practise and from their methods. Mashaykh (Scholars, Spiritual Mentors) are the people known and respected for their piety and religious learning.

We need to be looking at what our Mashaykh are doing in these days? Those who are staunch on not breaking any commands of Allah (Almighty). You do not see these Mashaykh going around in public and killing people in public. If (killing people on the streets) was JIHAD then those who are making spiritual JIHAD and suppressing their desires, will they leave this physical JIHAD out?

What are they doing during Ramadhan? They are fasting, they are performing Taraweeh and Tahajjud (nightly prayers), and they are engaged in recitation of the Qur’an. If there was a shortcut available to get to paradise, will they not take a shortcut? Why exert yourself for 30 days (night and day) when you can just go kill yourself (and others) and go straight to paradise? All this fasting and worship day in and day out, why do all of this? Because…

Killing people on the streets is not JIHAD, its FASAAD (corruption).

It would be nice if the ulama could provide the correct explaination of the ayaat and ahadith used by is supporters, and of the the ayaat and ahadith about jihad in general and how they could apply in the modern world.

I acknowledge that doing so could get the said ulama in trouble.

I don't think that's going to be possible for many reasons.

Instead, make pamphlets or blogs on the virtue of small deeds that are rewarded so highly and so on.

One rotten apple might just find that picking up a stone from the street to prevent others from getting hurt is so much more virtuous that his idea of hurting someone or even blowing themselves up is pointless, meaningless, barbarric, shameless, UNISLAMIC!

Quote:
Jihad is farz-e-aein or farz-e-kifaya these days? In Pakistan there are many Ulema like Moulana Masood Azher, Mufti Rasheed Ahmed, according to whom, it is fardh-e-aein. If people of Pakistan are insufficient for Afghanistan or Kashmir, if people of Palestine are insufficient or not acting for liberation, then wouldn't it be fard-e-aein on the neighboring countries?

Answer
The classification of Jihaad as Fardh-e-Ain and Fardh-e-Kifaayah is a delicate issue with major implications.

Such an issue must be discussed by a panel of leading Ulama. It is, thus, not appropriate for one person to issue a ruling by himself.

and Allah Ta’ala Knows Best

The best work on Jihad in English language was done by Anwar awlaki رضي الله عنه in his series 'the story of ibn akwa'. Also books by the late shaheed Abdullah azzam.

Not attacking shaykh hassan personally but it's pet hate when people only ever mention jihad in this context. It's completely wrong and causes more problems. At very least balance it out. A wise man once said to me the best jihad for the mujaahid is jihadul nafs and the best jihad for someone non combatant is jihad of the sword

I think one of the reasons there is issue around masculinity among men today is cos jihad has been hijacked by those who insists its all and only about nafs

Exactly! Everyone knows these quotes.
When a person wants to get a legal handgun and practice, our own people out of fear will quote stuff like that tweet.

The reality is if a person is reading their protection Duaas and obeying Allah Ta'ala's commands to the best of their ability, they should legally own weapons and learn how to use them. Allah Ta'ala through the Barkah of the masnoon Duaas will foil any plot the munaafiqs try to formulate.

Fear is a powerful weapon. Along with being in a state of Sabr, we are in a state of fear. Not fearing Allah Ta'ala but fearing any reproach from the western world. The Taliban are the best of us. Allah Ta'ala is the protector, our job is to prepare spiritually, mentally and physically. In Sha Allah us or our children will be harnessed into this function when the time is right.

Nothing Ikhtiyaari (i.e.volitional) on earth comes into existence without two wills: The Divine Will and the will of the person. Those whose focus was only on the will of man, became the Qadriyyah, and those whose focus was only on the Divine Will became the Jabriyyah. Those whose focus is on both Wills, are the Ahlus Sunnah.

This is misuse of the quote. In no way does Imam Ghazali رحمہ اللہ تعالیٰ negate participating in Jihaad with his quote. (Speaking generally, not directly to Brother Abu Mohammed)

Imam Qasim Nanotwi رحمہ اللّٰہ تعالیٰ says if the thought of insincerity (that I'm doing this act because people are watching me) crosses the mind when doing Ibadah, then a person should continue that action, because if he leaves it now then it will be considered Riya.

There are numerous Ahaadith indicating the amount of Islaah was done on the nufoos of Sahabah رضوان اللہ تعالیٰ علیہم اجمعین. Just one would be the self control of Hadrhat Ali کرم اللہ وجہہ, when the person spat on him.

You learn faster in hard situations and it has a more lasting effect. These quotes are just meant to inform people to continue their Mujahada to enhance their roohaniyat whilst they are in a state of ease and comfort.

Perhaps the tweet is misunderstood!

Actions are judged by intentions, so each man will have what he intended.

Egoism, Arrogance, Conceit, Selfishness, Greed, Lust, Intolerance, Anger, Lying, Cheating, Gossiping & Slandering.

Can we imagine if we have these traits within us? How many of these things mirror our own image.

The tweet was not to downgrade the importance of jihad, but to highlight our hypocrisy.

In Jihad:

There is a real war.

A mujahid offers his life and risks losing his life.

A mujahid risks his wife becoming a widow and his minor children becoming orphans.

A mujahid is constantly on alert against the enemy. There is no guarantee of his food and sleep and other comforts of life.

The specific rules and disciplines for jihad are deduced from the Quran and Hadith.

Mufti Shafi رحمه الله  states: We have understood that the word ‘Jihad’ is used in Shari’ah for all actions that involve the overcoming of obstacles in the path of Allah, however the most common meaning referred to with the word ‘Jihad’ is the action of fighting against the enemy (the specific Jihad).

Mufti Taqi Usmani Sahib states: Wherever the words فِيْ سَبِيْلِ اللهِ (‘In the path of Allah’) has come in the Ahadith, it directly refers to the specific Jihad. Yes, it is hoped that through the Mercy and Will of Allah, a person who does other actions for Deen and provides other services for Deen will also fall under the meaning of فِيْ سَبِيْلِ اللهِ (‘In the path of Allah’). Nonetheless, the phrase فِيْ سَبِيْلِ اللهِ (‘In the path of Allah’) is most commonly used as a reference to the specific Jihad.

It's dated June 2017 so I would say the following prompted this response:

Manchester Arena bombing on 22 May 2017 which killed 22 people.

London Bridge attack on 3 June 2017 which killed 8 people.

No one disputing it but it someone only ever mentions jihad hadith and quotes relating to non combat is a deceiver. Last 1400 years the primary and main understanding from the word jihad has always been fighting. Even the awliya or the past would say this. All the hadith about virtues of jihad and reward of martyrs is related to qitaal. Let's just call a spade a spade its only cos of 911 and onwards we seen scholars try give this measley new apologetic palatable definition of jihad. Its as cringe as those who say oh don't hate us islam is a religion of peace
