In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh

MEND has done a fantastic job summarising some of the key issues relevant and pertinent to Muslims.

Key Policy Concerns for Muslims :

  1. Islamophobia and Racial/Religious Equality: We have drawn attention to the pervasive character  of  Islamophobia  amongst  certain  elements  within  the  UK  and  argue  for  the   immediate  need  to  tackle  inadequate  legislation  on  racial  and  religious  hate  crime.
  2. Youth  and  Education:  In  terms  of  youth  and  education,  the  Muslim  population  in  Britain  is  increasingly  made  up  of  young  people  –  according  to  the  2011  census,  33%  of  Muslims  in  Britain  are  aged  15  or  under.
  3. Employment: Muslims experience a significant level of disadvantage in the labour market. They are discriminated against during the recruitment process, as well as in the workplace environment,   and   are   frequently   victims   of   frustrated   ambitions   as   they   are   under-represented  in  the  higher  positions  within  their  professions.
  4. Integration and Community Cohesion: The overwhelmingly negative portrayal of Muslims within the media is detrimental to any integration strategy based on creating and maintaining“common  ground”.
  5. Minority Rights: This manifesto outlines the policy issues pertaining to minority rights and the right to freedom of religion - and religious practice particularly - that dominate public debate.
  6. Counter-terrorism  and  Civil  Liberties:  The  Government  has  continued  to  implement  counter-terrorism  legislation  which  disproportionately  impacts  Muslim  communities,  with  the statutory Prevent duty having a particularly detrimental impact on young British Muslims.
  7. Crime and Policing: The disproportionate use of stop and search and Schedule 7 powers on minority communities continues to leave its impact.
  8. International Affairs and Human Rights Promotion Abroad: Regarding Britain’s foreign and international policy Muslim countries have regrettably consistently been in the spotlight since  2001.

Key Pledges for Muslims :

  1. Commit to proactively engage with a broad and representative spectrum of the British Muslim community.
  2. Commit to preserving the Human Rights Act and the protection of minority rights including rights to religious slaughter, circumcision and wearing of religious dress or symbols.
  3. Commit to tackling religious discrimination in the workplace and address the low level of economic activity among Muslims through targeted interventions at stages of recruitment, retention and promotion; improving access to employment for British Muslim women
  4. Commit to developing teaching materials to educate young people on Islamophobia, racism, and antisemitism; to prioritise religious education in the national curriculum to prepare young people for life in a religiously plural society.
  5. Commit to supporting faith school provisions in the state sector for Muslim pupils and parents; support ‘twinning’ of faith and non-faith schools to encourage cultural exchange between pupils of different racial, religious, ethnic and other backgrounds.
  6. Commit to media reform and the full implementation of the Royal Charter on a Leveson compliant regulator; support industry initiatives to promote positive, diverse representations of Muslims and minorities in the mainstream media.
  7. Commit to repealing the current statutory Prevent duty, and replacing this with a more effective, evidence based and non-discriminatory counter-terrorism strategy by engaging with Muslim communities.
  8. Commit to curbing the encroachment of counter-terrorism policies on civil liberties by reviewing all counter-terrorism legislation enacted since 2000.
  9. Commit to tackling the high number of Muslim prisoners through schemes to facilitate rehabilitation, cut re-offending and develop pathways for social inclusion.Commit to support the creation of an independent state of Palestine and the end to Israeli occupation of the Palestinian Territories.
  10. Commit to a review of the 2006 Racial and Religious Hatred Act as advised by the Law Commission’s “Hate crime: the case for extending the existing offences” report and introduce legislation to extend legal protection to cover religion, homophobia and disability hate crime.

Tactical Voting:

Another option being discussed amongst Muslims is tactical voting to STOP the Tories from going through with Hard Brexit. Tactical voting is being suggested for this purpose, two website which can help with it are:

  1. Tactical 2017
  2. BestforBritain

What are your thoughts on these elections?

Jazakallahu Khayran

In conclusion, don't vote for the Tories?

Lib Dems don't have anything to offer, except they will REMAIN, which is a good selling point IMO.

UKIP - LOL

Green Party - They have a policy which is in accordance to Islamic teachings, but that's just about staying green.

Other - Waste of a vote!

That leaves Labour. This time round with Corbyn, the party (or should I say, The leadership) seems to be honest with their feelings and are down to earth. A no nonsense leader?

My son will vote labour because he wants to study at university - for FREE and he likes Corbyn and his attitude.

Back in 2015

The parties also found divisions amongst religious lines - the survey found that Muslims were by far the most likely religious group to vote for Labour, and the least likely to vote Conservative.

64 per cent of Muslims voted Labour, compared to only 25 per cent for Conservative. Ethnic minority Christians also supported Labour.

Hindus and Sikhs, however, were both more likely to vote Conservative, with 49 per cent of both groups voting Conservative, compared to 41 per cent who voted Labour. However, the Sikh poll was conducted on a small sample of 63 people, making the results less reliable.

Many, just like many Muslims (like myself) are Republicans in America.

There are a lot of Muslims who believe that Consevative values are closer to Islam.

The party itself may on the outside be closer to Islam but I've yet to know of ONE decent human who has ever been a sitting tory MP. Saeeda warsi only got her act together when she left. I've never voted along party lines. I've always gone for who I think is best candidate both locally and PM. I want corbyn to win but my local MP is a blarite cow. I won't vote her bt she will win hands down. It's a very safe labour area

Does anyone think Corbin has a chance of winning?...There seems to have been a relentless campaign by the Zionist media and the Friends of Israel groups in Parliament too demonise him and malign him, the public seems to have lapped up the propaganda.

what makes u think he is not leadeship material? just seems like a cheap smear at him. what is leadership material? repeating oneself over and over and over again with soundbites like 'brexit mean brexit' or 'strong and stable' i mean if JC is not leadership material then may must be not even politician material.

its obviously the media and establishment have in for him. who else OPENLY declares support for palestine and has even made it a manifesto pledge to recognise the state of israel? dont reply with galloway as he is just a nobody in westminister.

anyway for those who have not registered to vote this is worth a read

I think jeremy Corbin is berated by other politicians mainly because of his educational background his status holds no high rank in the eyes of the upper class. He is seen as a commoner, but it's because of this he his in touch with practicality and Reality.

Most people in high position are not in touch with reality they grow up and live in a very different world to ours. They get into positions mainly due to influential circumstances and statuses yes they are talented speakers but that's all it is at the end of the day, all talk but no understanding or experiences relating to real life.
