In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh

Wifaqul Ulama Public Affairs Department has put together a suggestive action plan to support our Muslim Brothers and Sisters. Muslims in Britain have forwarded a lot of messages on WhatsApp and Social Media about the issue.

However, we believe that Muslims should direct their energy and work together in a coordinated manner to put political pressure on all concerned to ensure that an immediate end to atrocities being committed in Myanmar.

The actions suggested below should take you no more than 15 minutes to complete. Please follow these instructions and urge your family, friends and community to do the same.

Salam

Instead of individual letters would it not be better if muslim bodies and organisations wrote letters on behalf off muslims? Perhaps have it signed/petitions. Its a shame with over 1m muslims in uk the online petition is barely 50k. As for MPs we all me included definetly do need to get involved and get them to raise this. They call themselves civilised humans yet sit and watch 1000s of muslims being burtn alive and kicked out of their own homes

Quote:
Government responded:

The UK is deeply concerned by Rohingya persecution, including recent violence. We have called for restraint, humanitarian access and an investigation. Allegations of genocide are for courts to decide.

The British Government remains deeply concerned by the situation in Rakhine and the persecution of the Muslim minority Rohingya community. It is clear that the Muslim Rohingya minority are being persecuted and denied fundamental rights. The policy of the British Government is that any judgment on whether genocide has occurred is a matter for international judicial decision, rather than for governments or non-judicial bodies.

We are particularly concerned by the recent flare-up of violence. This was triggered on 9 October, when three Burmese Border Guard Police posts were attacked by Rohingya militants. We condemn this attack in which nine police and eight attackers were killed. Since then, media, humanitarian and diplomatic access to North Rakhine has been limited by the imposition of a curfew while the military carry out security operations to root out the perpetrators and retrieve the weapons taken during the attacks.

Although the lack of access makes facts difficult to verify, we are deeply concerned about a growing body of anecdotal evidence suggesting human rights violations in the security response. Reports suggest there could be a serious humanitarian impact if aid is not resumed quickly, particularly impacting those already affected by malnutrition.

In response to the latest outbreak of violence, our Ambassador visited northern Rakhine together with a number of international counterparts and the UN Resident Coordinator on 2-3 November. He has also lobbied five Ministers (most recently on 21 November), urging a restrained security response, an independent investigation and for the immediate resumption of humanitarian access.

These same messages were repeated by the Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs with responsibility for human rights, Baroness Anelay, who visited Burma from 9-12 November. She called on Burmese Ministers to launch an investigation into allegations of human rights abuses, and called for an immediate resumption of humanitarian aid.

The UK also discussed the issue at the UN Security Council on 17 November, where we raised our concerns about the lack of humanitarian access.

The Government of Burma has now committed to investigating both the 9 October attacks and allegations of human rights abuses carried out during the military operations in the wake of the initial attack on 9 October. It has also given a further commitment to restore humanitarian access to northern Rakhine State. We believe our efforts are best focused on monitoring implementation of these commitments and pressing privately if they do not move forward. We further believe the best approach to finding a long-term solution to the underlying inter-communal tensions in Rakhine State is to work with the democratically elected Government to de-escalate tensions. We do not believe expelling the Government’s representative in the UK would assist this process.

Since coming into power in April, Burma’s Government has taken some encouraging steps to begin tackling the issue of Rakhine and the treatment of the Rohingya community. In August State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi announced the establishment of a new hybrid Burmese/international Rakhine Advisory Commission headed by Kofi Annan to provide advice and recommendations for a durable solution to the problems of Rakhine State. We take this announcement as a sign of the seriousness with which the NLD-led Government views the situation there.

Nevertheless, we will continue to monitor the situation closely. Our priority remains the resumption of humanitarian aid. The UK has long been one of the biggest bilateral humanitarian donors to Burma and to Rakhine State. Since 2012, we have provided over £18m in humanitarian assistance, supporting work, including on sanitation and nutrition for over 126,000 people.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh

Wifaqul Ulama cautiously welcomes BBC report this morning exposing the Silence of Ms Aung San Suu Kyi regarding the atrocities committed towards Rohingya Muslims.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-38756601

Donald Trump and Aung San Suu Kyi have more in common than you might think.

The leaders of the United States and Myanmar are both aged the wrong side of 70, both have much-discussed hair and share a strong dislike of journalists.

Mr Trump's turbulent relationship with the media is covered extensively. Ms Suu Kyi's may come as a surprise.

"The Lady", as she's known here, became famous in the 1990s as an icon of human rights and democracy. While under military-enforced house arrest in Rangoon, reporters took great risks to speak to her, to hear her courageous story of resistance.

Now Ms Suu Kyi is in power, things are rather different.

She has created a powerful role for herself called State Counsellor to fulfil a promise of being "above the President". In practice that seems to also mean "above" public scrutiny.

Nevertheless, it doesn’t go far enough in unequivocally condemning the genocide and putting pressure on British Government to ensure that these brutal attacks on Muslims are stopped, immediately.

We remind Muslims in Britain that the conflict is still ongoing and for them to do everything in their power to assist Muslims in Burma, a suggestive plan of action is given below:

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh

We welcome the statement of Top UN official Yanghee Lee to BBC that Genocide against Muslims in Rohingya are Crimes Against Humanity.

However, we believe that UN should take actual and concrete steps to ensure that these crimes are stopped immediately.

Wifaq Ulama urges all Muslims to make Dua for Muslims in Myanmar and we suggest for you to follow these steps to put pressure on British Government and Human Rights organisations to urgently intervene in Myanmar.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh

This Saturday morning while millions of Muslims celebrate Eidul-Adha the genocide of Rohingya Muslims by the regime of Myanmar continues. We had put together an action plan last year and it is still applicable. It suggests certain actions and practical steps for British Muslims to take for their Rohingya brothers and sisters:

The disappointment of the world at Aung San Suu Kyi is palpable, a Nobel Peace laureate and winner of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. An administration that refuses UN investigators and the world’s media access to a state where it is believed genocide is taking place; a de facto leader who accuses aid workers of helping terrorists; and an office that accuses women of fabricating stories of sexual violence:

While browsing Facebook connections I came across this report in the Independent of UK. According to this report some Rohingya militant group named ARSA (Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army) was involved in the massacre of a Hindu village. The reporter bears a western name - Jeremy B. white. The source bears a Muslim name Tirana Hassan and is affiliated with the Amnesty International. Yet personally I find it completely incredible. But at the moment I can not figure out the weak link in this report. I find the report incredible on the basis of the circumstances. The Rohingyas are Bengali Muslims of Bangladeshi origin and hence they are emigrants and as such hopelessly in minority there. The only militancy in Bengalis we know today is of Naxalite kind and that is in India. It is unthinkable that Muslim migrants in a Buddhist country ruled by a ruthless military will take up armed operations against another minority - the Hindus. There can be only one possible explanation - the same forces are targeting the Hindus there that are targeting Rohingya Muslims. We can not forget that When Prime Minister Modi came to power India first conducted the so called surgical strikes, not in Pakistan but, in Myanmar itself. Against whom? That is the good question. Later on the powers that be have diverted the attention to solve two problems in a go by killing two birds with a stone. This news creates doubts about the innocence of the Rohingys Muslims and it hides the nefarious targeting of Hindus in Myanmar by the local Buddhists.

But the question is who will do the investigations when western journalist and a Muslim aid worker have not done their job well?

It looks like the Myanmar Army itself is behind the killing of Hindus there.

A secular country is concerned with her citizens only (and that also if she is civilized enough). No surprise.
