salaam

in this brief video shaykh zaheer mahmood (ha) talks about bilal رضي الله عنه. he mentions the incident that when bilal رضي الله عنه returned to madinah after many years of absence he gave the azaan and the sahaba came out ripping their clothes and tearing their hair out in grieve as it bought back memories of the time of rasoolullah (saw). is this to be taken literally or just figure of speach to show how emotional the sahaba got? we all know its haram to do such actions and i really cant imagine the best of this ummah behaving in such a way even if it was for rasoolullah (saw). they didnt do it when rasoolullah (saw) initially passed away so why when being reminded about him when bilal gave azaan.

Probably a figure of speech.

Quote:
Rasulullah (SallAllâhu Alayhi Wasallam) said "I have no connection with one who shaves, shouts and tears his clothing eg. in grief or affication." - Reported by Abu Darda (R.A.) in Muslim, Hadith no. 501

hmm salafis claim everything is weak lol. im not sure if to take it with a pinch of salt as deos usually use that hadith to support going to visit rasoolullah (saw)

also if it was weak why would so many deo scholars quote it as if its a established fact? shaykh zaheer is not by any means the first scholar i heard that incident from. perhaps the mods and ulema here can shed some light
