Many people are asking why we are starting at the same time as India and Pakistan.

I've tried giving explanations using the visibility chart, but is there a simple yet comprehensive answer that can be shared.

Personally, graphical explanations work the best when I give examples, something like that would be great.

Tell them if you had seen moon why didn't you gave shahadat in front of wifaq? And if you didn't see moon, then similarly no one else did. So how can we start ramadan without seeing moon.

Why you need to give them graphical explanations? Tell them sharii masla and that's it.

Why can’t we follow the Moonsighting of anywhere on the globe in UK?

Question: Why can’t we follow Moonsighting of anywhere on the globe in UK? Wherever the Moon is seen and we get the news, we simply take it and move on with it. Please give me a simple answer as to why this is not possible?

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh

I would like to begin by extending our gratitude to you for asking this question. May Allah Ta'ala give you the best of rewards (Ameen).

So some state the moon was sighted in Chili before dawn entered in UK, which would make it acceptable to follow their sightings?

Has any scholar clarified this issue? You will find texts in fiqh books that on yawm al-shakk (30th day of sha'ban) the masses will be asked to refrain from eating and if the news about moonsighting reaches before zawal they can view this day as ramadan?

Maghrib last night in my city was around 21:27. Suhoor end at 01:27, Chilli is 3 Hours ahead of us. How do you propose notifying 3 Million Muslims and also explaining them this Mas'ala?

You asked the same question last year so I am all ears for a Solution.

The Ulama in UK have never brought this up so I am just wondering about the practical aspects of informing the entire coountry 30 minutes before Suhoor that they need to fast.

jazakAllah for that article it does explain and answer many of my questions. i just want to then why do we fellow south africa and morroco? the article states if we follow countries to our east then we in the UK will never get to follow the sunnah of looking and sighting the hilal.

i mean it should be strictly either global ( accept any country) or strictly local ( ONLY uk sighting accepted). accepting morroco and south africa is neither here or there. think you mentioned if we did this we will be many days out of sync but so what? why is it ok to be 1 day behind but not 5 or 10? its not like are are doing something wrong. if follow the sunnah means we end up being a few days behind so be it. i dont see what negative impact it will have. as the old saying goes ' when in rome do as the romans do' if those who go umrah hajj etc then they will follow that date but whilst in UK stick to what we have

I'm sorry, but as brother Sulaiman put it...

Do in Rome as the Prophet (saw) did

well what i said is how the prophet (saw) did do moon sighting. if it wasnt seen after 29 days then complete full 30. I am happy with that, no need to ask about morroco and south africa ;)
