RAMADAN 1437/ 2016 Announcement

The Crescent Committee of Canada has accepted the declaration of the Saudi Arabian Judiciary Council who have declared the beginning of the month of Ramadan through their process of moon sighting. The new crescent was sighted on the eve of Sunday 5th June, 2016 (29 Sha’ban) in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, the month of Sha’ban ends and we welcome the blessed month of Ramadan 1437.

First Tarawih is Sunday June 5th, 2016
First day of Fasting is Monday June 6th, 2016.

We have verified the reports with our representatives in Saudi Arabia. We are also expecting moon sighting reports in the west as the day progresses.

an influential deobandi aalim in toronto gave fatwa recently that we can follow saudi so the deobandi aalims in crescent now find it hard to resist the pressure not to accept saudi's sightings. one saathi asked a deobandi scholar in crescent committee when it first started, "sure, you say you follow reliable global sightings, but will you able to fight the pressure to reject saudi's declaration?" maulana kept quiet.

Why create the razzamataz of creating a brand new organisation claiming to be fusion of "Science & Shariah" only to endorse Saudia? It was already happening in Canada anyways...

i was gullible so i believed them. when one brother told me they're just going to end up followig saudi in the end, i didn't believe him.

on the other hand, you have hilal committee. typical gujurati clique.

I spoke to daywalker and predicted that this is a Chinook and will blow over! He didn't believe me and today he finally admits…

AsalaamsWW ,  when they first formed back in 2012 their very first website's homepage only had one affiliation/support link - wifaqul ulama (WU). As far as i know there was no formal affiliation with WU though by putting the WU link on their homepage it seemed clear they wanted to go down a similar route i.e.global reliable sighting.

They wanted to move more towards a global (inclu reports from S.America and S.Africa* also) but still reliable and acceptable criteria (incl using data to aid sightings or weed out erroneous sightings ) to try maximise the occasions when ramdhan and eid was celebrated with most of the wider community in that area who follows Saudi and thus move/steer away from the Hilal Committee of GTA which has a regional based criteria thus less likely to coincide with Saudi  (i.e Canada, USA and the Caribbean ONLY but not S.America and not anywhere across the pond). Personally speaking im fine with that and i can somewhat understand why they done this.      However following a discussion I had with a Molana from the Crescent Committee (CC) back on 13th June 2013 (which Muadh is fully aware of) i did have my reservations and also stated it to Muadh and others the following day on the 14th June 2013... it seemed unfortunately yes they were edging towards also accepting erroneous news from Saudi however since that 2013 discussion they have held out a few times and rejected Saudi reports... i guess the pressure was just too much in the end which resulted in CC amending their criteria to accept Saudi sighting even though they admit it goes against astronomical data :-( 

Lets take the time to pay tribute to Ulama like Shaykh (Abul Hasan) Ali Nadwi (RA)) who saw the problem with Ummul-Qura in 1973 and opposed it.

Maulana Yaqub Qasmi (HA) who single-handedly stood in this country and opposed the absolute onsluaght of British Muslims.

Then we have this so called "Fusion of Science & Shariah" who simply want to endorse the status quo and have no backbone or guts to actually work on fixing a problem!

These guys have changed their criteria a few times since they started and today they are rubber stamping Saudia
