Asslamo Allaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,
Mufti Saheb, told me this story himself in the Masjid.
He went to India (for the first time) to the native village of his grandfather. On the second day he got summoned to the local Mandir and was told that an old woman wanted to speak to him.
Puzzled, he went to meet her. This woman was belonged to highest Brahmin caste and her family had been caretakers of the local Mandir for generations.
She sat (Mufti Saheb) down with her and gave him fruits etc. Then she told me that years before and during the Indian partition were violent and turbulent. Her parents used to travel for Hindu Yatra somewhere and since she was just a little girl she had to be left somewhere.
Mufti Saheb’s Grandfather was the Imam of the local Mosque. The Hindu family used to leave her with Mufti Saheb’s Grandfather and because she was Hindu she couldn’t eat in Muslim utensils so his grandmother used to prepare separate food and serve it in separate utensils to the little girl.
This happened not once but repeatedly over many years until Mufti Saheb’s family moved out of India and he eventually to America. The old woman wanted to appreciate the kindness of his Grandparents.
