What may be the world's oldest fragments of the Koran have been found by the University of Birmingham.

Radiocarbon dating found the manuscript to be at least 1,370 years old, making it among the earliest in existence.

The pages of the Muslim holy text had remained unrecognised in the university library for almost a century.

The British Library's expert on such manuscripts, Dr Muhammad Isa Waley, said this "exciting discovery" would make Muslims "rejoice".

The manuscript had been kept with a collection of other Middle Eastern books and documents, without being identified as one of the oldest fragments of the Koran in the world.

Oldest texts

When a PhD researcher looked more closely at these pages it was decided to carry out a radiocarbon dating test and the results were "startling".

The university's director of special collections, Susan Worrall, said researchers had not expected "in our wildest dreams" that it would be so old.

"Finding out we had one of the oldest fragments of the Koran in the whole world has been fantastically exciting."

Subhanallah

Dated to the time of Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman رضي الله عنه over 1370 years old

Question Is how did it end up in Birmingham university in the first place?

Please Pray to Allah that they must not tell lie about todays Quran and this Quran , & divide the ummah.

"These portions must have been in a form that is very close to the form of the Koran read today, supporting the view that the text has undergone little or no alteration and that it can be dated to a point very close to the time it was believed to be revealed."

It'll be nearer to the time of Yazid actually since Ali (RA) passed away on 40H.

I'm planning sending this to friends who are spreading the news of the Birmingham Quran until something more detailed is available. Please advise:

----

Salam

The Carbon dating process has been used in the past by evolutionists to try to prove their theory. There are many cases where artefacts have been manufactured/forged etc.

I would take such revelations with a pinch of salt.

Let's wait and see what happens. Let's wait till these reports have been scrutinised and adequately verified.

We shouldn't be spreading the news, especially if it could turn out to be inaccurate.

The report claims that the manuscript could have been written by a Companion. If we are led to believe that it is true, then we have to believe in what is written on the script.

If the script has verses or words that are different to the Quran that we have, it will create a huge doubt in the reliability of the Quran.

I have seen copies of pre-dated Qurans which look far older than the images in the article.

Simple rule - if it's too good to be true, it's too good to be true!

Wassalam

Everyone is going to come up with their own theory. As brother jinn said "they couldn't even if they tried" so no need to worry. The only thing bugging me is doesn't turkey already have a quraan which belonged to Usmaan (Radi allah u anhu)
