Post edit Policy of MS

Asslamo Allaikum,

I am not happy with the post edit policy of MS. Sometimes a person says things which on later reflection doesn't seem right, something the original direction of discussion changes. Sometimes the tone or content may appear to cause Fitnah.

So a person should be allowed to change their mind and the Moderators shouldn't be in a position to disapprove an edit when the person who uttered those words has decided to retract or change it.

If those words were an error then Mods are propagating the error of a Muslim and complicit in propagating a Fitnah. Sorry for bringing SF into it but they edit posts, close them prematurely which gives the impression that the user has a certain position when they don’t.

I respectfully disagree with this policy and ask for it to be reconsidered.

We submit to the Ameer and Mushwara so if that's what's decided in the Shura then we submit and we obey.  Our job is to bring an issue to your attention and Shura and Ameer Saheb decide and we accept the outcome.

People make mistakes and will continue to do.

Its Shura decision but ultimately what you are saying is that your override our own self inspection (and corrections) and will have your sins/mistakes displayed forever.

If a person commits an error and they then realise than that should be allowed to edit/apologise/seek forgiveness (correct/amend as necessary).

This is the biggest complaint about SF on the Internet that Moderators/Administrative use their subject judgment on issues. MS is declining the right of people to edit their own words. Majority of islamic forums don't follow this policy at all becaus it creates bad blood between people.

I had an issue with Aapa UmHasan (Alimah) and I was wrong. I picked up the phone, called her husband explained the situation and apologised.  My error is still there for the whole world to see in pure daylight while I was never given a chance to explain the corrective action; so for the rest of the world it appears that I disrespected an Alimah and their judgement is clouded forever., because they can’t see the corrective action.

Not that I care but just a practical example of the impact of Moderators on people.

Whatever you decide but just trying to make the issue as clear as possible.
